Description
Made for the coloring page contest atThe goal is to take a coloring page of any Disney character or scene from a movie or TV show and color over it as a new painting.
My second entry is Flynn (Eugene) Ryder from Tangled. The inspiration for this was a colored sketch by Glen Keane and his daughter Claire Keane. Originally Flynn, that wasn't even the character's name then; was a gypsy bandit. From their sketch he looks like a crossover between Esmeralda and Aladdin.
The sketches of this version appear in page 18 of the book The Art Of Tangled by author Jeff Kurtti.
Made with Corel Painter Essentials 4 I used the basic watercolor brush and some minor things with the soft charcoal.

All Disney characters undergo a long transformation before all departments agree on a certain look and design before any animation starts. Some other sketches of him are as a big guy like the ones in the tavern.

Yes, I think you got his nose right LOL. That said, that's a very interesting fact to learn about Flynn's original concept before he became the Flynn we know and love! The colors you threw into this piece are very bright and match the mischief of the owner; he definitely looks like he could be related to Esmeralda and Aladdin. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Glen Keane and his daughter drew inspiration from those two and their choices of clothing. I really enjoy the details you placed on the clothing; they help him to stand out as a gypsy who enjoys the finer things in life and will do what he must to obtain them. I also like how his hair style came out too; it speaks to me that this is a wild and free-spirited individual who does what he wants and nobody stands a chance against him. He's as wild and spirited as the flora behind him, as they grow and shine in the sunlight at their own pace and no one else's.
So yeah, this is a great take on him! Well done.
