POA has been my favourite Harry Potter book and film since childhood and Sirius is my second favourite character (after Lupin). I have no words for how much I love this. Everything about it is absolutely amazing. Can't wait to see the last four! x

Nice! Love the Lupin/Potter/Black trio. Would have been interesting to be kicking around Hogwarts with those three in class. Especially around the full moon

This might be a running theme with me, but I was dissapointed by Sirius black in the movies. More so than I normally am with adaptations because Sirius is one of my favorite characters from the franchise.
This actually looks like a man who's lived with chronic depression and souls sucking demons for the better part of a decade.

Gary Oldman's representation was a bit softer than I remember the books to be. But I think much of that is because Alfonso didn't play up his image prior to the big reveal in the shack. We saw some wanted posters and the Fat Lady had an obnoxious reaction to her canvas vandalism (honestly that portrayal of her was almost comical. Really killed Black's mystique and terror for me) But in the end, especially through OOTP I think his personality fell into place for me.
The depression factor though...that's a fair point. There's not much of that to Black's character on the surface in the films.

One thing that struck me was how JK talked about her own experienced with depression. Right now I'm married to someone with depression so I have front row seats to how that disease can ravage an otherwise healthy person.
Essentially the only thing that kept black sane was the belief that he was innocent.

Oh certainly. Dementors are the perfect embodiment of depression and torment. It's fantastically dark personification.
I had a friend who was bi-polar and seeing them go through extreme states of happiness and what I can only describe as depression, was exhausting, fascinating, infuriating, scary, and saddening. The mind can be a strange and mysterious place sometimes.

Thanks, Harry! That's something that I hoped these illustrations would do. Maybe get people interested in the series. There's actually very little artistic liberty that I'm taking with these covers. About 80% of everything I'm painting is taken straight from J.K. Rowling's descriptions. They may be listed as Young Adult but the books are a lot darker than most people think
