The following excerpt is from the reading of the heretic Christopher Abbott’s report to the Monks of Truth on the Marlok as it was presented before the Council of Hope on his Day of Reckoning. The possession of this by anyone other than members of the Council of Hope is to be met with death.

We thought we had won. We had beaten back the darkness that threatened to engulf our world, and we had emerged broken, bloodied, and victorious. Our future had never looked so bright…..yet we were so wrong.

The fires hadn’t even finished burning on their ships before the stories began to emerge. The survivors told of a horror unknown that came at them again and again with no remorse, and we refused to believe. We were so assured in our victory that we believed they were shell-shocked by the horror of the war and that their stories were just that, stories.

Our pride became our downfall, and by the time we realized we were wrong it was too late. The Marlok, as we came to call them, had taken advantage of our denial and multiplied to a number that overwhelmed us.

I do not know if they are a product of nature or nurture, but I do know that they are the perfect killing machines. They can survive in all environments and are masters of stealth. They hunt in packs and their numbers can not be stopped as they are born pregnant.

Long has it been debated whether it would be fire or ice that destroys this world, and to that question I do not know the answer. What I do know is that we are in the final hour of the race of Man, and we have entered a twilight from which there will be no dawn. We confused a battle for the war.
