Description I wanted her to appear as a memory, ghost, or apparition of a man's lost love. Inspired by Mr. Poe of course! I thought a lot about this painting, and referred to the Victorian language of flowers when I chose the lilacs and the forget-me-nots.

This is one of the largest paintings I have ever done, 50 inches by 50! It was definitely a learning experience painting that large, but I still prefer small.

This photo does not do the painting justice, as it is so big. oh well!

Did I miss this one somehow??! It's amazing, I love how it's kind of white washed, it almost looks like the face is peering out from behind ice...and 50 by 50 is HUGE!!! Did you stretch he canvas yourself?? I think 36x48 is the biggest I've ever done. Awesome job as usual

dustfae In reply to sbelmarsh [2011-06-13 21:04:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Yes I stretched it myself, that in itself took long enough!

sbelmarsh In reply to dustfae [2011-06-13 21:42:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh you are far more patient than I could ever be! I never learned how to stretch canvas just because I knew I'd never be able to spend the time on it....I can't even imagine stretching something that big!

dustfae In reply to sbelmarsh [2011-06-13 21:45:14 +0000 UTC]

I know! It is so tedious. I have to do it for many of my classes, but I avoid it as all costs. The worst was when I had to do a six footer, it took about 6 hours or more to build, stretch, and gesso.

sbelmarsh In reply to dustfae [2011-06-13 22:03:40 +0000 UTC]

Hahah that sounds painful....I definitely would have given up and gone to Michael's to buy a pre-stretched frame about an hour into that

Haha true. I'm guessing pre-stretched frames aren't overly accepted in art class

this is really beautiful! I love the colours, and how it's nearly transparent looking. Great job, i wouldn't know how to do such a thing. This is simply gorgeous! so I can come back and look at it again from time to time

Beautiful work, I love your style and this technique is amazing. It looks like a memory indeed, there's something cold and distant, yet I can tell that it is a good memory (of a lover...). Great job, I think you presented the idea wonderfully

I did this in so many layers, I think that's why. I wanted her to be buried in all that stuff, sort of like a metaphor for a funeral shroud I think.

thepaperraper In reply to dustfae [2011-06-07 16:43:09 +0000 UTC]

I like it. did you have an idea before you attacked the canvas, or did you kind of just "go with the flow"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dustfae In reply to thepaperraper [2011-06-07 18:38:13 +0000 UTC]

I had the idea and concept in my mind but I had no idea it would look like this. I went with the flow a lot, especially with the layers.

thepaperraper In reply to dustfae [2011-06-07 18:57:28 +0000 UTC]

that's how i do all my work too, i can never plan out an entire piece, just the idea. i have to work off an idea until it looks right to me.
