Description Local former furniture store, built 1899-1900, burned June 25. Sort of had a feeling of the ruins of Atlanta following the Civil War look to it.Β

Thank you, thought I'd try doing something with an otherwise sad scene.Β

Thanks, I'd rather be back drinking a beer or two there before a hockey game, but making the best of reality.Β

Given the right company, they could pay for the tear down by selling the brick.

I think they're saving what they can, apparently a lot of red sandstone structure that's getting a bit rare. The critical 5-story wall that abuts the adjoining businesses they're sawing through partially and taking down by hand with crowbars and picks almost brick by brick.Β

Yeah, definitely. Sadly remember going to the brewpub that used to be on the 1st floor a few times before hockey games across the street. There's been a few more old, empty building going up in flames the last week or so afterwards, and now they're looking into a possible serial arsonist in the area.Β

Tragically, they will likely demolish that instead of being able to restore it. The interior is destroyed, but those load bearing brick walls look to be in good shape.

It was mostly gone by this afternoon. Lots of legal actions between the owners and the city that went on for days. The owner's architect and structural engineer thought it was technically feasible to rebuild, but would never be economically justifiable. Unfortunately it was an unsafe situation with the 1911 era 2-story buildings butting up against it, with the businesses inside still shut down by the fire department.Β
