Oddly enough if you play the game in the pacifist route you can go ALL the way back to where you met Toriel and he's still alive and well.

I mean, he's certainly alive, but given that he was moments away from transforming back into a flower and losing his ability to love for the rest of his life... I'm not too sure about the 'well' front.
