great work man. When you say rookie mistakes i kinda see what you mean in certain parts. But I've seen "rookie" mistakes that paid artists make too. Nobody's perfect when it comes to this. That's why we're all artists and not brain surgeons.

Also, your shading in this is fantastic. It's not there just because it's supposed to be; it conveys mood and emotion.

Well for being a rookie thats really good. I couldn't do that without a lot of practice. Plus charcoal seems difficult-ish.

Well good luck with your charcoal adventures, lol.
Much respect for you being able to do that. Maybe I should try it some time. Being a perfectionist, trying stuff like that scares me lol.
Looking forward to seeing more

That's great ^^
However, without trying to be all critique-y, I'd say it looks better like in your Avatar, without the feet and floor.. Just my opinion
S'good for one of your first attempts though, charcoal can be such a pain.

I don't think I've ever drawn water before XD But I bet it's hard to draw with charcoal, cause it's hard to draw with colours and pencils XD I think that you'll be awesome once you've practiced drawing more often Your anatomy is already good so yeah

it actually looks better (too me) if i crop out the bottum, and a little bit of the left side.. like how my avatar is cropped.. the framing is much better like that i think

haha oh wow, that's pretty cool that i could pick that out

obviously he has a fear of women though, and he should probably go to a therapist about it

lol i dont think he does, i think that, women are much easier to illistrate as emotional, and overall give a better feel in gothic/dark portraits, they also have much more elegant lines in their body/clothing, and if you are going to draw/paint gothic style it is mostly women that you will be drawing.. from what ive seen anyways.. but who knows mabye he is just scared of them lol

well he always draws them with no faces
meaning he may be either
A) scared to look a woman in the face
B) fear the emotion that can come across a woman's face in a matter of seconds
C) just plain hate the way woman's faces are put together
or D) millions of other reasons

and me personally, i feel men have much more elegant lines than woman
they have many more curves [not meaning hips but lines in general] than woman, giving them much more definition and poise
for me a man is much more emotional than a woman, he just hides it better

but this may just be me

lol, well, in manyyy of his paintings, the girls have faces.. and alot of them are nude paintings, and then theres some of guys, without heads at all, things like birds nests replacing them. i guess its just his style of art.. we can guess all day why he does it but we will never know! =\

lol morbid, i was thinking of doing a sketch based on "if blood where thicker than water then, youd drown quicker than we expected" but that will be after my mechanical heart sketch if i do it at all.. lol.. charcoal is bringing out the dark side of my art!!
