Description The Mothman was a supernatural creature that, according to accounts, terrorrized a small town in the Midwest ( I forget where exactly). Many thought it was a harbinger of doom, since after making many appearences, a nearby bridge collapsed for no known reason. It was made into a pretty good movie with Richard Gere. Very spooky! But I was pissed off because the movie never gave you a decent look at the monster. So I decided to draw him myself.

Oh, by the way, I know this thing looks absolutely nothing like a moth, I'm just going on the "eyewitness" accounts.

EDIT: , a self-proclaimed "Mothman Geek", just gave me some nifty input about this here dude:

Mothman was reportedly seen in the early 60's, (1966 to be exact) in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The whole Harbinger of death theory is very odd, because sometime in Germany, a thing similar in appearance was seen outside of a mine and It wouldn't let anyone in. After hearing a loud explosion noise from inside the mine, the creature flew off. Upon entering, the Miner's found that the Mine had collapsed.

I love your interpetation. Mothman is so varied in the reports and you seem to take an interesting take on it. The top one is da bomb. Well done!

I'm drawing a comic on Mothman... though he looks quite a bit differet from yours. I love cryptids, and I love drawing them in a humorous or realistic fashion...

...especially Mothman, even though when it comes down to it, I'm dead scared of him.

Cool! Can't wait to see your finished product. My depiction is inspired by a combination of Frank Frazetta's illustration for the cover of one of Keel's books (not the one where he's in a tree, with huge butterfly wings), some sketches from The Mothman Prophecies, and my own interpretations of the records based on eyewitness testimony. Much as I liked Prophecies, I was disappointed we never got a good look at the titular creature. Still, not that type of movie, I s'pose.

I also wished for a better look at mothman in the movie, but maybe it's best since I'm still scared of big black shadows (a result of the movie XD).

I based my mothman characters a lot on owls and moths put together (owls can look REALLY headless in their sillhouettes). I should be uploading them soon.....I've penciled 16 pages on the comic so far!!

This is a brilliant interpretation of how Mothman looked. I'm not a big fan of the 'no-headed' look, with the eyes in the shoulder area, even though that's how witnesses described it. But with your drawing it still has a head, yet the eyes are still where they were described to be.
I like it. Even if it's scaring the hell out of me.

Haha, thanks! I felt the same way as you when I saw some other illustrations of it, which is exactly why I created this hybrid. Glad you like it!

I mean, when you look at the other drawings, they don't look very real or convincing. Yours looks real. And convincing.

You're welcome!

The town was Point Pleasant, in West Virginia.

Yeah, I guess you're probably right. It could have come off as a bit hokey.

just in case no-one has told you yet, Mothman was reportedly seen in the early 60's, (1966 to be exact) in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The whole Harbinger of death theory is very odd, because sometime in Germany, a thing similar in appearance was seen outside of a mine and It wouldn't let anyone in. I like the creepy expressions!

It was grey in color and had feathered wings. Nice sketches tho. You got the low-set head right. Head was more human in appearance, but eyes spaced further apart. The Gere film was great, but the bridge disaster happened in the late 60's, NOT in present day as depicted in the film.

Thanks! To be honest, I wasn't trying to be all that faithful to eyewitness reports in my design. Yeah, I enjoyed the movie too, though I was hoping for a better look at the creature. It might have made the movie a bit hokey if it wasn't done right, though. Thanks for the comment!
