Description "Establishment gonna fall down and go boom."

WOS = Women of Science

I'm not expecting many to know this one! Ruth Leavitt played by Kate Reid from The Andromeda Strain (1971). She's the microbiologist of a team of scientists brought together to investigate and nullify an extraterrestrial organism that turns blood to powder. It's a super sciencey film about scientists working together and the only foe is the unknown.

Interestingly, in the original novel Dr. Leavitt was a man. The director (Robert Wise) was iffy about changing him to a woman at first, thinking they'd cast a sex bomb. Luckily they had Kate Reid in mind so he agreed to the change. And now we have this lovely woman who's probably the best character in the movie.
So there you have it! Changing the sex of a character actually works really well in some cases- namely with good casting and good direction... but not so well in others... Ghostbusters Reboot.

Now available as a print, iphone case, t-shirt and more!

OMG I know her ... what does this say about my age ?
To be honest, I only watched the movie last year cause I realised that it was one of the SF classics I've never seen. You pictured her "leave me alone" character very well. I found it great that she was cast a "real" woman (although I didn't like the smoking, but that's a personal thing) and not another one of those "beauties".

Yes! Casting an older woman was great.

Ooh, it was a guy in the book. That could explain why they didn't stand out enough to remember them. :P (...or maybe just because I'd read the book...Β around 16 years ago)

Despite it being over a decade before my time, I have seen it and it stands up well!
She was a fun character, pithy and down-to-earth IIRC.

She's glorious~! You did a fantastic job drawing her. And you're probably one of the only people who's ever drawn her. I love her pose, heehee. Fitting for her!
