Description "My mind is my own, and nobody's going to change it!"

WOS = Women of Science.

I'm not expecting many to know this one. Dr. Ruth Adams from classic B movie, This Island Earth... which was also riffed for Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie.
At the time it was released in '55, I guess it was pretty well received by critics. Now it's mostly viewed as a goofy but entertaining little scifi flick. I've actually never seen it without the MST3K riffs, or read the novel, but I'm kinda interested in reading the book some day.
I'm not exactly sure what Ruth is a doctor of. I know in the book she's a psychologist, but in the movie it seems she's some sort of physicist or engineer.

She's sitting on an interocitor here (which I scaled down a bit to fit into the picture), and behind her is a mutant--beasts bred for alien labor on the planet Metaluna.

Now available as a print, iphone case, t-shirt and more!

I saw it as a child on TNT before the MST3000 riff version. I found it so sad that I nearly cried. As fun as the riff later was, I think it blinds people to how damn TRAGIC the story actually is. Watching it as a serious film as an innocent child, not yet spoiled on state of the art modern special effects in modern sci-fi, I was really able to get to the intent of the director.

"Run, Ruth, run!"

"Brilliant strategy, thanks Napoleon!"

I love the mst3k version and the original is... interesting, but i got to admit Cal is probably one of the more unlikeable heroes set to film.

Haha, I'm so curious about watching it without MST. XD
Man they did a great job riffing it! Makes me laugh every time.

You need to see the film un-MYSted. There are a couple of scenes that help explain the pacing and certain plot thingys.

You did an excellent job in drawing her dress with the weirdly tight upper half.

I wish I had an interocitor.

I first saw this movie in Germany at a local theater that specialized in showing old sci-fi movies.Β  It was titled "Metaluna 4 Doesn't Answer".Β  That was the line from the movie and my German is very bad now or I would have given their title to it.Β  I love how the movie had Jeff Morrow playing the alien seeking help from Earth; he was the lead in "Kronos".

Maybe the translation of the original title didn't fit the German language well.Β  Was still a good movie.
