This is Otto, the other main character from my comic, Jupiter.
He 40 years old, lives in an alternate '80s, is a roboticist, and he abhors violence to the extent that he can't watch TV or even read a book.
His hair is an interesting challenge. :0
Since everyone has super-young, super-skinny characters with cheekbones that bleed, I decided I really needed to have a protagonist who's older, slightly overweight, and without fashionable zygomatic bones.
No offense, but if all your characters are young, beautiful, fit people... then you've created a very unrealistic universe. But on the other hand, you've probably created a universe that'll sell.
As for me... who needs to have a popular comic anyway?

it's weird seeing otto angry... does he actually use that face? he doesn't seem the type.
and if tite kubo can make millions then so can you. he does the BLEACH series and he does a lot and I mean a shit ton of different body types. he's not afraid to make people of all kinds with different hair colors, weights, heights, personalities, intellect, sexuality, races. he does them all. if he can do it, then you can and you're comic is more realistically dramatic

I like his design. 
Unusual in the comic industry as you say, but yet very realistic. We need more characters like him, who aren't all beautiful, slim, conventionally handsome... Different body types and faces give and help to reflect a personality, I think.

Aww, I like him! At first I hoped he'd be a cop or some kind of a detective, but the whole "abhors violence" thing makes me doubt it.

No way, Zime, I think doing something different than what everyone else is doing is a way to stand out and get more sales! I admit, I'm guilty of making nothing but "beautiful" characters, but I'm trying to make an effort to try new things. Slowly.
As for this guy (and all the Jupiter stuff you've been posting), it seems like an interesting concept and I can't wait to see where you go with it.

Oh, I know tons of people who only read comics when they have 'hot' guys as the leads. ;_;
Luckily I'm not into making comics for the money.
Learning to draw characters who aren't generally considered "beautiful" has actually been tons of fun me! It's all a matter of learning to draw 'em in an appealing fashion.

After I did my little research project on asexuality a year ago I discovered I have lots of asexual friends on deviantART! So, I thought it would be fun to portray an ace.

Have you considered giving him a black ring? many aces wear a black ring on the middle finger of their right hand as a symbol of asexuality.
Then again, this trend started in the early 2000 so if the story is set in the 80's then... it doesn't really matter I guess...

I had an idea for a story (which hasn't panned out yet) where I reversed the genders in the story of Swan Lake. The swan's name was Otto and the girl's (or princess's) name was Frieda. Get it? 'Cause Odette and Siegfried.

Nah, he'd still have to be a swan or it would be too confusing - there are so many stories of both males and females being turned into animals or animal-like things.
