A mark was on him from the day's delight, so that all his life, when April was a thin green and the flavor of rain was on his tongue, an old wound would throb and a nostalgia would fill him for something he could not quite remember.

I initially wasn't going to continue drawing book covers, but I decided it was so fun, I will continue after all! I didn't read that many books this year, so hopefully it won't take me too long to catch up.

Anyhoo, The Yearling is one of the best coming-of-age books for boys... and it was written by a woman! And, it's so good they gave it the Pulitzer.

The language is beautiful and I just ADORE that she included the accents of 1870s Florida; it gives the whole thing a magnificent flavor.
