Description More edited microscopy pictures This one was done with the same colouring chemicals as the last. It's a cross-section of the stem of a plant, and also a beach, somehow. Odd, how those things go XP Β

I absolutely love it! It was very smart of you to use that natural curve and create a beach from it. I love the sandals on the shore, and the multiple layers of the water in the plant/water. Hehe. Looks great!

Wow, it really looks like a beach! that's awesome, never thought that microscope pictures could be used for this! I love sandy beaches so much that I study them, hehe.

You study sandy beaches? How so? From an artistic point of view I suppose?Β

nope, from a scientific point of view lol, I just noticed you are Dutch, so I guess you know that 60% or so of the Netherlands is prone to flooding, and a large part of it would be sea if we didn't had dunes. Dunes need sand to grow or to recover from erosive storm events. That sand needs to be transported from the sea to the beach, and from the beach to the dunes. Sounds a bit simple now, but the underlying processes are not well understood. Which is great; it means I can do research and have a job, lol! One way to study the beach is by video monitoring; there are various camera systems installed along coasts around the world, including a few in the Netherlands. I study those images, so I sit all day behind my desk looking at beach photo's XDΒ

Oh my, you actually study beaches?! That is really cool! So you're the one that saves us from drowing by keeping the dunes healthy ah, I must thank you then. I believe my family lives in the part of the netherlands that would flood if the sea got really angry.Β
I once was on a field trip to the dunes with my study. Somewhere in Noord-Holland I believe. We went there for the exotic plants, mostly, but there was this woman too who knew loads about dunes, she explained to us how dunes form, and how even a tiny blade of grass or a seashell can give birth to a dune, I thought it was very impressive.Β
But those dunes, they move, right? Doesn't that mean that you'd have to move the camera's regularly or doesn't it work that way? Β

Hihi, well, I think the credits for 'saving the Netherlands' go to Rijkswaterstaat XDΒ
Fascinating how one area can cover so many fields of interest! I once went on a field trip to the dunes that was all about potato fields, haha! completely different from what I am doing. apparently the dunes are so dry/infertile that agriculture is only possible with potatoes in the low parts, in the 'duinpannen' that used to be a common sight in the middle ages, but now almost all agriculture is gone and dunes are turned into nature. As far as nature exist in the Netherlands...
The Dutch dunes do not really move; most of them are so strongly covered by marram grass or other vegetation that they became fixed. That's changing though; policy makers work more and more with nature than against it. For example; the vegetation of the dunes north of Kijkduin has been partly removed. This means the sand can blow freely now, and rare, pioneer vegetation has returned to the area. The system there became more dynamic, which sounds like a good thing to me. The only problem they have now is that the bicycle path gets covered with sand on a regular basis XD Don't worry about those camera's, they are located on top of lighthouses and hotels, so they are quite safe there. Β In case you want to take a look at the images, you can find them here:Β argus-public.deltares.nl/archi…
the site I am using is the Egmond Coast3D tower. Sounds fancy, but that particular spot is breaking down a bit

Wow I didn't knew you were making these mixed media drawings/photo's ! So awesome and creative . I think some microscopy samples are great. I've made a lot of pictures actually of my insects these months (to put in my presentation (but maybe I can show some here as well)) and I know how difficult it is to 'find' the image and to not get a black picture >.πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Haha thanks Well truth be told it's quite some time ago for me too, I probably couldn't find any structures back now even if I tried Β
I have a folder stashed away on my computer with like, four hunderd or so microscopy pictures XP But only very little of them are actually any good, and even then I have to edit them. It's a shame really.Β
Oooh cool! You must show me those insect pictures once you're back Β

Beautiful! You make such unique works. Who would've thought you could use a microscope to create art?! The end result is stunning though.

Wow, now I imagine walking along a bioluminescent beach... it's the first thing I see after looking at this artwork.

Oooh I hadn't even thought of that! yes indeed. Oh, I would love to do that once. A friend of mine lately told me that she'd been in bioluminescent waters a few times on Schiermonnikoog. I can hardly imagine something that cool happening so close by. I've never seen it the times I went there, though I did see bioluminescent jellyfish there once. Β

Weird right!? Believe me, I was just as confused. But a friend of mine had a summer home on one of the islands and she swam in bioluminescent water several times!Β

D'aaw, that's a shame Though, it's rather hard to do. Microscopes and smartphones don't go well together. So very little people actually take the time to take pictures.Β
A friend of mine does biology in another town, but they're not allowed to have their smartphones out during labwork. I'm so glad that's not the case with us.Β

Oh I LOVE looking at cells and such through a microscope. This is a really cool idea! The plant cells look so pretty here. Interesting idea adding the beach there too.
