Woo for halfway points ... Qita is the 5th out of 10. I'm working on the next one, but I'm definitely slowing down. I'm in a creative rut in addition to real life hassling me. Spring Break is coming up, and since I'm going to be stuck in my apartment, I might get more work done than usual. But probably not.

This turned out really good, actually. The fox spirit, Raito, turned out nothing like I wanted him to, but he doesn't suck. I also managed to do some semi-decent glows. I really can't get over how a piece like Phauxwin can make me scream, but a more complicated piece like Qita just rolls along. Weird. I think I might need to chance her shirt color. And Raito is supposed to be a spirit of the moon and he turned out way too green. But all in all, I am pleased.

Qita grew up in the northern part of the war-torn country of Obfinzax, in a forest called Maeror. Her tribe of yathmaya eked out a hidden existence as best they could, training themselves for the time when they would be discovered. Qita ran down to the river each morning to watch her human face slowly distort and transform into the mask of an alien beast, while her body ached and twisted as the animal spirit within her asserted itself. A band of soldiers attacked the yathmaya when Qita was 15, burning the forest in order to put the beastfolk at a disadvantage. Qita fled with her father's sword and never looked back, not even to find the outcome of the battle. She began to wander through the Four Kingdoms of the North, sometimes as a mercenary, sometimes captured as a slave. Her cunning always allowed her to win back her sword and escape. But one night, while traveling with a band of royal soldiers, Qita suffered and unspeakable tragedy at their drunken hands. Hearing her agony and shame, Raito burst forth, the first of the po that heralded Qita's birthright as a Summoner. Qita barely survived her wounds and the subsequent winter, shunned by any human hand for aid. Raito caught game for her, and she used him to nurse herself back to health. Her strength eventually returned, and with it her wanderings, tempered by a cold hatred and distant heart. Traversing the nothern border of Rezdan, Qita was scented by the hounds of a Lion hunting party. Unwilling to match her magic against those of Rezdan's finest mage-knights, Qita allowed herself to be captured, and in order to save herself pledged her sword the Lion who led the group. She was promptly sent south, to the border keep Kyr Daron, as a wedding present.
