Description Commission for of her boyfriend's character, Arco from our roleplay board. Arco is fabulous villain. He is one of the characters on our incredibly evil villainous council, Wiseman Sigma and is essentially a complete monster. He's the warden of the Horribly Evil Prison, the Tartarus and he generally spends his days gleefully torturing inmates. He's also the Wisemen poster boy and spends a lot of time on TV spreading propaganda for our lovely dystopian society, hence the title. Arco is obsessed with colors and is constantly wearing bright colors and dying his hair, he's known for referring to things as "colorful" and has a fantastically camp demeanor. He tends to act like a goofball, but that doesn't really hide his horribly sadistic side. I've loved this character for years, so it's nice to get an excuse to draw him.

On the not-so-cool side of things, I'm not entirely happy with how this piece came out. I really wanted to push my digital painting and I don't feel I did-- I probably should have tried to do the spotlights and city behind him by "hand" as opposed to using the square tools and gradients. I went with that since my stuff is so shaky, but... yeah. Eh. My digital art really needs to take the step my traditional stuff has, and I'm not really sure where to start. I tried messing with the lineart and painting over said lineart and such, but I don't think it worked very well. Ah well, I guess I'll keep trying.

Hopefully Teara and Sperium like it at least~!

Crits and comments are greatly appreciated.

That smile. EVERY TIME THAT SMILE. STOP IT ARCO, I'M GOING TO HAVE NIGHTMARES.

For as much trouble as you say you were having with this, I think it turned out pretty well. I can just hear the dramatic, over-the-top villainous music playing while he grins down at his foes from the top of that...building...thing. Someone push him off.

Haha, thanks. Unfortunately, I doubt pushing him off would do anything. XD

His hair is being blown by the wind. When your hair is blown in the wind, it doesn't all stay perfectly in the same place-- it gets blown everywhere, and that includes over the top of your head if the wind is strong enough. So no, he doesn't have a cowlick. :/

I feel I should refrain from critical critique, since this is a commissioned piece, but I will say that I actually think the use of the rectangle tools for the background is appropriate. Buildings do have perfectly straight lines and the only advice I could give you if you're unsatisfied with your work (barring straight crit) is to study cityscapes--I lived in New York for a month and it's pretty much the city of cities, but the Empire State Building was gorgeous at night. This city seems to have been invaded by red fog, though. I did get to see New York in clouds, but never quite of that color.

This said, the character himself is fantastic. I'm assuming you did him first and then put in the background. Notwithstanding my automatic love of a man in purple (<3), the colors are gorgeous, the shading is gorgeous (that hair! That vest! That sleeve! That staff!) and the way you have his coat flowing is amazing!

I did study cityscapes, this just.... didn't come out quite how I wanted. I know they don't turn red like that, it was an attempt at messing with the... mood, I guess? I dunno, I'm gonna just experiment with it some other time. If you have any advice beyond looking at cityscapes, however, that'd be helpful.

Hey, at least Arco looks good. XD

As for how he got up there, the man controls gravity. Making himself light as a feather and floating up the rooftops is pretty simple for him, haha.

Very dynamic. Seems to fit all requirements for a psycho, charming yet creepy smile and an extremely snappy dresser. I like it very much
