Description Another weird alt evo universe idea, this wasΒ arose from a conversation about how robustly adapted to herbivory that were paranthropus and then someone called them Ape bovids or something like that, I mixed it with the idea of hornbills taking the route of sapience and the end resulted in this image of a cowboy (or apeboy?) with some large young adult male forms of this cowfolk, they are more robust and fat that their african counterparts and they could gain more weight over time, in their head hold large "cheek frills" similar to an orangutan due to artificial breeding.

Food mostly, they are partially used for cargo and transport

Absolutely fantastic idea! What are the climatic and environmental conditions like in this version of the world? Did Africa never connect to Eurasia or are the climatic conditions such that Africa is largely covered in forests?
And seeing as the cowfolk are being bred for food and the cheek frills are the result of that breeding, are they considered a sort of delicacy to the hornbills? I was just wondering because I’m guessing it is mostly fatty tissue like in orangutans and was wondering why the hornbills would intentionally breed them like that.
Sorry for bombarding you with questions btw, I just really love this concept and want to know as much as possible about itΒ

Thank you , also no worries on ask, is really nice to explain more about this world.

Oh yes, the climate did modify a little but though time, in this case the eventual drying and cooling of the Quaternary was delayed by at least 2 to 3 million years due to the modification of the tectonic plates on north east africa (Alien Space Bats in this case) since much of the Arabian peninsula stayed as a shallow sea with several islands still connecting Eurasia but not closing the path, causing the Pleistocene climate to arrive quite late preventing humanity from evolving as it does on earth, instead Hornbills had the opportunity to evolve into sapience since their ancestors of semi-arboreal lifestyle had developed a large brain in addition to grasping fingers that helped them as efficient manipulators.

More or less,Β Cheeks tend to be quite chubby forΒ culinary purposes and also contain good ammount of muscles and fat forΒ high-calories, these vary in size depending on some breeds.

The wild folk of these hominids are actually quite strong, at the same level of a gorilla and chimps, although their better defense is actually their numbers and living in group, the cowfolks though they have been domesticated and downgraded a little their force so they are kinda weak.

Given the shape of the muzzle I'd expect them to have teeth similar to a gorilla, including the very large canines.Β  Combined with their strong jaw muscles (necessary for processing tough plant material), that ought to give them quite a dangerous bite.

Fascinating. Also with a more risky(and potentially lewd) question. Do these sophont hornbills consume milk. If so, is there a specific breed panthropid that would be an equivalent to a Holstein Cow.
