I made this for an art challenge I had to organize on the Gurren Lagann Amino.
(Which is still goinβ on, by the way if anyone wants to weasel their way into the challenge.)

Idek how you do it, but you make Yoko look much more appealing and interesting compared to her canon design. To be quite honest with you, I've never liked Yoko as a character. I ADORE her character design, it's AMAZING but I feel Yoko comes off as pretty shallow and just there really as a love interest for Kamina and fanservice for TTGL. I can admit she sorta bounced back when she became a teacher and all, that was nice. But in general, I would've liked to see Yoko become her own self, her own character and go beyond that fanservice purpose she serves.Β
What I really mean is XD Yoko in your style has much more personality than her original counterpart. ^^ Keep up the fantastic work!

Not gonna lie... we think similarly. Hahaha. I felt pretty much the same way. She had her high points and what not, but it's honestly kinda difficult to pin a defined personality on her. At least, if you ask me, haha.Β
Which is why I like taking her and adding some twists to her n' stuff. Makin' things more interesting, ya know? I do it a lot especially with her, because, to me, she never really struck me with a defined personality to work off of, yada yada yada. So I figured: "You know what? I'm going to draw her how I want. Let's make her more interesting or something."Β Β Β
But hey, I'm really flattered by your comment! In fact, you had inspired me to draw a little doodle of Yoko today, haha. (Maybe I could note it to ya or somethin', haha.)

Omg. I thought I was the only one lmao. So you agree? XD Yoko needed much more shaping as a character, imo. She could've been pretty friggin fantastic if you ask me. Simon was great, Kamina was great, even Nia was pretty badass. Well, Yoko WAS badass but just in the actiony scenes lol. She was badass fighting, but not so much as a character sob sob.Β
Oh yeah totally! That's the cool thing about putting your own spin on characters as an artist, makes it all the more interesting! YUSSSS. Your Yoko is great!Β
