May I ask what u used to desaturate?

It was shot as monochrome in RAW. I never convert from colour. I edited it in the GIMP using a plug-in called ufraw to open the RAW file and then saved it as an uncompressed jpg.

ah, I also have a canon now, but never tried that feature... I prefer to desaturate manually

I'd recommend that you use a Color Mixer to convert to monochrome rather than desaturate as the results are usually much better.
