Sitting on the sidewalk, soaking up the sunThinking of summer days gone by
It was then I saw them—two snails making their way
No idea where they were going
But they weren’t getting there fast.
I could not help but smile—
At the thoughts that came to my head
Of where these two snails could be traveling to
At such a crazy time.
The weather is getting colder, perhaps they’re heading south
But however will they get there? I ponder
But perhaps, this isn’t what it’s about.
Two snails, just enjoying their time together
Slow and steady, about the journey
And not the destination.
They could probably cross the U.S.
And not think about it—
And they would probably turn around
And repeat the journey again.
Perhaps they would take a different path
And explore the world in ways I could not comprehend.
But such is a life of a snail, I’m not quite sure
But I cannot help the smile
That comes to my lips as they turn the curve.
Disappearing from my sight
At their slow and steady pace.
They understand
Life is not a race.
