Description The forests of North America, 55 million years ago.
A small herbivore is foraging through the undergrowth: it's small, not any larger than a small dog. You might not expect it, but over the course of millions of years this little animal's descendants will evolve into our nowaday's horses.
Suddenly the sound of a snapping twig resonates vaguely through the vegetation and the Eohippus startles. She looks straight at the direction of the sound and points her ears while she raises her tail, her congeners closeby will notice the bright white hairs and follow her from the moment she runs away.
The little horse sniffs, trying to pick up a smell, her muscles are tensed and ready to let her run over the forest floor...

I can't draw horses, weird animals, but I thought I could maybe give their ancestors a try.
Eohippus/Hyracotherium angustidens is the oldest ancestor of horses and wasn't taller than 35 centimeters at the shoulder. Their tail was long and they still had multiple toes in contrary to our current horses.
