Description This started as the first of my quickie commissions (for a deviant who wishes to be anonymous) but soon became an obsession to get things just right. It might be because of the seriousness of the subject matter.

Some of you may recognize the woman from a piece I submitted a couple weeks ago, so I'm substituting with this one because it seems more cause-worthy.

I finished this earlier this month, and only posted it today since the event finished over the weekend. It was made to advertise an event/fair pushing for the awareness of obtaining a cure for breast cancer and it turned out to be one of the pieces I'm most proud of. I've removed the event dates and location so as to make it more generic for print sale.

Speaking of--ALL of my profit from this print sale for this creation will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

I created a 2008 version since last year's version did fairly well as far as print sales and faves(Thanks guys), and as usual, donations will be made...And to those who misunderstood the artistic direction of this piece last year, once again, F**k you.

I give my full permission for *DeviantDolls to display this deviation in the club's gallery

This is quite an amazing and powerful Piece. It signifies so much, and it for such a powerful cause. You show how amazing your talent is by using it for good ideas and to help others who need it. Even though one person doesn't like it, there probably are a thousand who like it a lot. *referring to the comments before*

think twice before you think pink...

Orginizations are making there profits this month.
With there mongering brainwashing into selling there "pink" merchandise.

Prevention is the cure

Sunlight from the sun slashes 77% of breast cancer. And there are many, many more things that help prevent and even reverse breast cancer and many more types of disease and terminal cancers.

If you are located in the states, USA. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) Makes sure everyone stays ignorant about the truth, and how natural sunlight can literally save a patients life. As well as eating fresh vegetables and broccoli sprouts wich has been shown to fight cancer cells. And prevent them from reforming.
Im located in Canada but here even the "santer Canada" is limited in saying the truth about every natural healing sources. There are many ways to treat cancer and even reverse it withought undergoing barbaric treatments such as surgery, chemo, and drugs.

Knowledge is power.

Good luck!

... This is a serious poster?

Why is everybody trying to get attention for breast cancer by making it look like it's sexy?

It's not like prostate cancer gets a similar treatment.

You'd be the only one. Read my other messages from ppl who actually work in the field and from ppl who actually had family members suffer from this disease. But then again everyone has their opinion.

Renegade-Hamster In reply to DomNX [2007-10-25 08:21:31 +0000 UTC]

Good logic with the "Majority Rules" argument. I'm sure Gallileo would have been proud.

Besides, I'm not the only one who thinks intentionally inciting lust is terrible, and especially inappropriate for raising awareness of a potentially fatal illness.

Should we have mud-wrestling for Multiple-Sclerosis? Porn films for AIDS?

If penises were the object of the disease instead of breasts, would we have big billboards of men from the waist down?

You know, as a female, I find YOUR comments to be sexist, rude and distasteful. You're not a female so don't tell us how WE should feel.

Unless you've known the kind of damage this disease can do from a female point-of-views, don't you DARE act like you're the spokesman. "Gallileo," please. This artist is more of a freethinker than you are.

While YOU see erotic and sexist images in this piece or art, I see strength and pride and the willingness to fight. There's nothing tittilating or sexual about the image. You're probably the type who gets turned on by breast-feeding mothers at the mall.

So until you get your mind out of the gutter and grow up a little, go back to your self-endulgent photoshop characters or manga or whatever. In fact, when you're willing to do a social-conscious piece that helps the us as a whole instead of the stuff you're doing, by all means let me know and I'll crap all over it like you're doing. Hope you enjoy your narrow-minded life.

Wowee. You got a whole lotta discourses coming together at once:

The cancer industry
Girl Power
State Power
War Propaganda
Youth-as-sexuality

And to be sure, these discourses all involve problems. Yeah; you got a smashing nexus of problematic discourses!

Awesome work.

hcube In reply to DomNX [2007-10-25 01:34:50 +0000 UTC]

The short answer is yup. An image that can capture that many controversial/interesting topics all at once is solid gold.

I mean, I think that fighting breast cancer is a genuinely great project. I just know that fighting illness in our society is politicized along lines of gender, race, class, geography etc. Also, the biomedical/industrial complex has a huge stake (and huge say) in what diseases get fought and which ones don't. Add in the fact that breasts (as symbols) straddle sex/eroticism on the one hand, and youth/motherhood on the other.

But this is too much academic BS. It is a great image, and it has me thinking in a big way. That is why I like it.
