Description My first ever space scene, just to let you all know. I have never attempted to make a space scene before, and I think I did pretty good for a first try.

Made in PS CS2. Done from scratch, no renders or filters (Other than a few blurs).

I want HEAVY critique on this piece, mainly because I want to improve on my space scene work. Thank you!

Ok, if you want heavy critique, here you go.

The main problem that stands out is the planet itself. If you look at the horizon itself, it looks as if the planet has an atmosphere. Yet if you look directly at the planet, it looks like a lifeless ball (that's not very detailed mine you). What happened to the atmosphere? If it's a lifeless ball, there should be no blue horizon. If it has an atmosphere, there should be clouds and things. Also, the ground itself is terribly under-detailed. It looks like it's from very old video games. To really understand how to make a planet look from space, try looking at some of the earth from space photos, or just looking at the moon outside your house. Even from this incredible distance from the moon, landmarks and asteroid damage are clearly visible. Even a dead planet would have severe asteroid or impact damage.

Now, onto the sun itself. It looks like it's crashing onto the planet. The reflection off the planet is as bright as the sun itself, and I don't know whether it was intentional to make it look like it was reflecting sunlight like the moon, or absorbing it like the Earth. Again, this is a problem with the atmosphere and the planet itself.

Also, the halo of the sun is very awkward. I recommend you look at photos of Solar eclipses. The halo in those pictures is incredible. IE: [link]

The rays of light coming off the sun do not seem to make much sense. Never heard of that.

One other thing about the sun: It doesn't seem to be round. It seems to be more like fire in the sky than a celestial object. It needs to be a solid ball, with maybe one or two flares coming off it, not look like fire.

In a photographic sense, the lack of stars makes complete sense. If this were an actual photograph, you wouldn't be able to see stars, because of how bright the sun is. But in an artistic sense, that's a ton of blank space. This one's up to you.

The planet needs more detail, I'm sure you had a lot to start with, but then you made it blurry to make it more realistic, but I would like to see more detail, not TOO much, but just in between blurry and HD.

Some stars would have been nice, nebulas and stars is where you can just go all-out crazy and make your space scene look sick..

Also, the lighting from that sunrise onto the planet, It's flat. If you zoom out you see it evidently. The planet seems blue-er and brighter from that big star thing, but then, it just stops and goes into darkness. I would've liked the lighting on the planet to have been more radial and circular rather than straight..

That's my "HEAVY critique on this piece," hope you enjoyed it
