I love both... but I kind of like the soft tones and looser shapes of the 'before' more than the general composition of the 'after'. Either way you are very talented

Aww, thank you dearie :'D I've had that told to me as well. I guess before I just slapped on all the colours and hoped the picture would come out of that whereas with the new one I sketched a bit before I drew and also experimented with lighting, so I understand what you mean. >3<

I'm already so old, hahaha. I stopped drawing when I was very young, then I started drawing again - like as if my skills were from scratch so I taught myself better technique etc. last year, around maybe August or so. And I just keep on looking at how people paint and draw and shade. I have a lot of drawing videos from youtube bookmarked so I see how people do charcoal etc. and I try and imitate that technique onto my drawings. Then I look at digital art and I try and imitate that technique as well.
But the best advice I can give is to just keep on practicing, and lots of trial and error with experimentation. (like converting black and white drawings to colour etc. compared to colouring from scratch was one of my experiments with my Starfighter Navigator/Fighter pictures.)
I always draw for maybe at least 1 or 2 hours everyday, so I stay loose and improve my technique because I want to always be better- but also, I'm very impatient so I always want to be faster too! Lol. I dumped a lot of words on you xD I'm sorry!

And the reason I suck so much is because all I do is doodle all day on and off, when I feel like it, and the only source of help I get? Massive yaoi manga intake. I swear, my brain ought to be rotted out but it isn't. Yet.
You can imagine my art teacher completely hated me when I was in drawing class. cB The only thing I got a good grade on was a replica painting by that one guy and the whatever it was he was famous for who alludes me right now, and that was still just 96 WHICH TO ME IS UNFAIR MAN. UN FAIR. D8

I don't think anybody sucks, really, but they just need to practice more. Some people are just born with a natural ability in something and they choose if they want to improve on it or not, and others have to work for it, and can essentially become as good or even better if they practice enough as well. :'DD
I remember doing massive manga intake >3< But I had to stop because it was messing up my technique and proportions. I don't have a right to say how someone should learn, but from personal experience, I found that once I got the grasp of drawing a bit less manga and a bit more realist/semi-realist, I found drawing to be more easier and rewarding. And I can still draw manga style, but more improved, I think, lol! @__@ I doodle a lot too!! I am almost filled with one sketch book and now I want to buy another one if I'm not too broke lol :'DD
A 96 is still very impressive! >u< My art teacher didn't like me either because I never knew what to do! LOL. I wish I could go back with the skills I have now and blow their mind xDD Maybe I could have gotten a better mark in that class lolol >n<

Well, I WASN'T born talented so it is like fff-- But I drew ever since I was super wee so it's like, just a habit really. Not much more, so I don't focus on getting better. MUST PRACTICE.
I have read too much manga I think, my poor brains. So it's no wonder I can't draw too good. XD FFFF I need a sketch book or two, but sadly I get sick of everything I draw and trash it/recycle bin it on my laptop because it all just suckkks. XD

Sketch books are good if you're running around outside all day and you have some time for yourself 8DD
Plus they're extra handy if you need to write down notes and stuff.
I normally draw everything on my computer so my sketch book is ignored a lot! >3< And I recycle everything I draw too because nothing I do is ever good enough for me xDD
