I think they were trying toΒ  take the weewee out of Star Trek... especially since the Space Corps is supposed to be more Starfleety.

I take it your not familiar with Red Dwarf ?.

The answer to your question quite simply is - NO.

The image itself comes from a 2012 episode of the most recent series of Red Dwarf called 'Trojan', and quite clearly, the uniforms worn in just the 1 episode was deliberately based on the uniforms of 'Star Trek - Deep Space Nine', but if you was a fan of Red Dwarf, then you'd obviously be aware of Red Dwarf sometimes doing parodies of other well known Sci-Fi's, such as the series III episode 'Polymorph' being a parody of the 1979 classic 'Alien' which was an inspiration for the makers of Red Dwarf, while the 2009 3-part special Red Dwarf - Back to Earth was deliberately based on the film 'Blade Runner', the film itself is even mentioned by a character in that very story.

If you'd like to learn about Red Dwarf, then the official site should help best explain it www.reddwarf.co.uk/about/

That's what I thought they were wearing for a second, not so subtle tribute to the crew of DS9 perhaps?

DoctorWhoOne In reply to TheLastCybertronian [2012-10-04 14:16:35 +0000 UTC]

Not sure, but Red Dwarf has been known for doing parodies, Polymorph being based on 1979's 'Alien' while Back to Earth was based on 'Blade Runner'.

I don't think Rob Grant and Doug Naylor are fan's of Star Trek, otherwise they would never have written Lister in the episode Legion as saying 'Don't give us the Star Trek crap, it's too early in the morning".

(I've been staring at this all day... and the comments)

But to correct you on a point I believe it was the Series 3 Episode- The Last Day where Lister had said "Don't give us the Star Trek crap, it's too early in the morning." When they woke up with a hangover on the day of Hudsen 10's arrival to replace Kryten.

Well spin my nipple nuts and send me to Alaska . . . . you are absolutely right, that quote is from Hudson and not Legion.

Somebody shoot me now

Don't worry about it...
... and nobody will shot ya, it was just a little mistake. I do it all the time when my mum quotes something and I come in with the line after in a complete different order... I just go "Damn, I'm slipping a bit."

I've been looking all over my stations for any sign of the series coming our way. So far, no luck.

I'm thinking we'll end up getting a marathon by the time the season ends.

That's okay. Our DirecTV makes it easy to look and see if there's any word yet.

That, and the website to our public station that used to show 'em.

And here's a tip : Urine should be green only if you're Mr. Spock. - Rimmer (Bodyswap)

Nah, Vulcan piss is the color and consistancy of crude oil due to the fact that they recycle the water in their bodies A lot due to evolving on a desert planet.

Well it aint the first time they've talked about certain human body parts

Rimmer - "And while we're on the subject, when someone's had a tad too much claret and has fallen asleep, naked on their bunk, people of homour generally don't take a Polaroid of your snoozing todger, draw a mustache, mouth and ears on it, and then pin it up on the bulletin board under missing persons!!. They don't write underneath: have you seen this man? Believed to be a French movie star!".

Lister - "As if your todger with a couple of eyes drawn on it would look like a French movie star. Way too good looking".

Extract from Red Dwarf - Back in the Red, part 1.
