Here, in the Old Continent, you can see some terrifying things inside some churches.
I see it like some kind of "memento mori", meaning that death is, somehow, "innocent" or "blind" to appearances, as a... child?
Anyway, you're right, is quite disturbing. To associate children with death always is.

I would love to travel to Europe some day to see these old cathedrals...here in America we don't have lovely architecture (or vaguely morbid statues) like this.
