Soo... this was an oil painting assignment in my painting class this year.Originally, I was painting Jack Sparrow. But my "little" spidey obsession was "sorta" distracting... so I totally started over with spiderman instead XD
Meh... I was kinda debating about submitting this here. By the time I was done, I was quite fed up. I don't want to talk about it <_<
Oil doesn't photograph very well either, as I've found >:C The shineyness of the paint sorta takes away from the contrast of color and makes all those white splotchy looking places. Whatever!
I was gonna link to the reference picture too but... I don't really want to find it <_< I'm sure you guys are familiar with this image anyway XD

this looks really good,
Ill give my opinion and say that it may even worth be considering going over with dried pastels to add detail. i think it would be really effective.

Don't be so hard on yourself, this is wonderful. You really captured Tobey, and getting a painting to really look like someone is a hard thing to do, so great job. I totally understand the picture thing, sometimes its hard to get a photo to capture what a piece really looks like in person, it's frustrating, but great job! (:

it's easier to mix colors and make smooth effects on the canvas. And if you mess up, it's easier to fix.

Wow, this is quite amazing. My jaw dropped when I first saw this as a thumbnail. It's great, there are some things about his features that don't seem quite accurate to me, but he looks real, and that's what matters - to me anyway.

Super kudos to you cause 1.) I absolutely hate oil painting and 2.) I still haven't figured out realism to the point of getting the person to look like a person. My brain knows it but my hand doesn't I suppose. Very awesome painting you've achieved here as well.
