Well, to be fair, both characters were created by Ohbari Masami, and Ohbari does like to reuse characters and character designs in his works. Hell, if you take a good look at the Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer incarnation of Hishizaki Shaia (aka Shaia Shu Silveianu and Misty Shaia), you'll notice that she's basically a redrawing on his take on Shiranui Mai. Son Karin is also a character in the Angel Blade hentai anime OVA series, albeit with a shorter hairstyle and is now a mutant futanari chick.
