They explain it in a World of Remnant episode. If two of the same species get together (ex. two cats) they will produce a cat faunus. Two different one's, however, will produce something completely random. It could be a cat, monkey, snake or really any other animal you can think of

Sienna having long hair really makes her stand out. (I have a soft spot for girls with long hair)
I can so see Ghira being the "leader" of the movement and that was possibly how he met his future love Kali as well. (Her younger form is gorgeous!)

rwby after monty oum died, steady high speed decline. too much useless talk, not enough action. Rooster Teeth literally americanized and standardized that show into the generic crap it is now. The whole point of RWBY being so popular was that it was to be an original version of his DEAD FANTASY series which was fucking amazing just cuz of how over the top the fighting was. That's why, as dumb as the premise of DEAD FANTASY was, it ended up being superb. Then he passes away and all the cool stories he was telling with fight scenes virtually ceased to exist. Best fight scene will still be Blake and that monkey boy vs roman torchwick. Shotgun nunchucks. AMAZING. Most of RWBY fights now are just melodramatic yelling, posing and dumb fights.
