Description The palace in the city of Umbar, originally built by the Numenoreans, it fell through the hands of many peoples until at last the Haradrim claimed it as their own. I enjoyed exploring what Numenorean architecture might have looked like influenced by a desert environment and before their style evolved into what we're familiar with in Gondor.

I created a very basic 3D model for use as an underlay/guide to ensure accurate perspective as this is the most complex architectural piece I have ever tackled.

Textures from CGTextures.

This is remarkable work. It takes some time for the viewer to look through the detail you have drawn into the architectural features of the palace. The towers have a lofty atmosphere to them. One can feel the wind from the sea whipping through the tattered ladders. You have found a rare style and I advise you to maintain it with care. Very well done.

Oh my gosh, I have been drooling over this for days and have only just discovered that I could zoom into it a SECOND time which makes it absolutely enormous. There is so much detail, I love all the little people and the rainbow in the waterfall. It seems that you forgot to paint in one of the people though, who appears as a light brown silhouette. But I never would have noticed if I hadn't zoomed in twice and combed over every inch of the image.

Glad to see something from Harad ! The city reminds me of Babylone's pyramids called ziggourats
and the palace, a famous painting of the Babel Tower by Pieter Brueghel the elder.
Beautiful lights rendering and very nice details as the stork and the other ones flying near the first tower
on the left.

Thanks for the comment, I hadn't seen Brueghel's work before you mentioned it, but I have seen modern adaptions of his awesome design. I can totally see him inspiring me in the future! Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback

Glad to know my comment could be useful for you.
Brueghel is an awesome painter, he painted realistic scenes
but I was really impressed by his weird painting "Dulle Griet".
You're welcome.

Yeah! Totally
That painting's awesome! Some artists imaginations make me so jealous :'/

HydromelKing In reply to DireImpulse [2014-03-28 00:37:02 +0000 UTC]

I understand but you shouldn't be jealous, it's just a training of the mind
everyone can have a great imagination, the most difficult is to
reproduce what we imagine into our art.

Wow, this is a piece of epic proportions. From the wonderful architecture, the lighting, to every little detail... I love zooming in on the tower to the left and being able to see every piece of wood and fabric that make up scaffolding-catwalk-thingie. It's apparent that this was made with love Very well done!

Aw, thanks so much! It may have started out with love, but it turned into hate after the 60 hour mark - trust me I got so sick of looking at it lol! So I really appreciate it when someone notices the little details <3

"Wow!" Is the first thing I thought! Very cool. Always wondered how it would look and now would love to see this in film.

It's very complex but has natural feel, and I love the lighting and coloring.
