Description This is a WORK IN PROGRESS. I'm normally not one for submitting WIPs as deviations... but I would like some opinions before going further.

I know he still needs hands and I'm going to remodel the head before posing him, but what I wanted was your opinions on the anime style. It works well for the lower-half but I'm iffy on the upper half, he looks too plasticy. Currently i simply have a lens effect going on (no... not the default toon shader) rather than each material being set up specifically.

Opinions? Should I go further with this or just stick to a general 3D style? I appreciate the insight!

After I finalize him, get him posed and everything... I will start on the robot masters from the first six games. Even though the masters from Mega Man 6 suck balls

I don't like the shading as much, the textures are a bit simple, but that face is so good, it's amazing.

personally, I like the shading on him right now. Actually, his gauntlets and boots should be shaded the same way IMO. But, thats just me. Good work so far

kick ass what did you make this in. i did mega man and am working on protoman in 3ds max that are both almost complete and ready to animate but they don't look nearly as good as this

Thanks for the positive comment! I made this with Softimage|XSI, but I've been doing CG for about 7 years too It's gonna be cool when your protoman is done and you animate them together. Someday I'll return to this and make more robot masters.... Someday lol

Yeah, I'm still in school and just finish all my 3d classes. i thought I'd do these megaman character for extra practice(and so i'm at least semi-productive while i'm bugging the animation instructor in his class) I would love to see those robot masters.

The torso does look a little "plasticy".

It works well everywhere but there. Is it the angle, or does it always get that look?

Everything else is looking great though, style is spot on.

I look forward to seeing more and the bosses.

Its actually how the shader works, the brightest part shows up based on the Angle of Incidence. Of course that "plasticy" look works for the deep blue parts... but the light blue parts are supposed to be more organic looking so they really shouldn't be there at all. At the moment all the shaders are done by a simple camera pass... I'll have to look into allowing the materials to be individually modified.

Thanks for the kind comments I'm actually working on a general base mesh for what could easily be turned into the other robot masters. Once I get the first six done I'll make a wallpaper of them and Mega Man

Fuck yeah man, he's the Blue Bomber. Who needs hands when you just blow the fuck outta everything that stands in your way!? Bosses, doors, platforms. Seriously though the hands actually have a bit of character on their own so I'm procrastinating making them, just because I've never made them well. But a first time for everything right?

Strongly digging this. I like the shading that you've done in particular.

Thanks! That's exactly what I want feedback on. I might separate it into layers to make it work better in post production.
