Really awesome! Not many that use a shuttle in there space pictures. Lenz Flare... Never heard about that. Is it free or do u need to buy it like PS?

I used photoshop for the planets and the stars and 3D Studio Max for the rings. They both cost money, though.

Yes, lens flare in 3D Studio Max. But you can make them in Photoshop with relative ease. Just make a normal lens flare and then play with curve and brightness levels. Then you can paint on it for different flares.

I need some of your intellectual guidance... How did you make the space dust and scattered rocks?? Did you use a brush with a texture applied?

The rings were a mix of a rough particle ring in 3d studio max and the "dust" was just in photoshop.
I dont make rings like that anymore, though. The sense of size just isnt there as much. I have a rings tutorial in my gallery, if you're curious about my method.

Amazing. Simply amazing.
Now, onto the critique
Regarding the "satellite" (or telescope, or whatever )... If you want to add a little more realism to the model :
1) The solar panels should be more reflective. If you want, you can put some debris or a dust-like texture to them, but I'm not sure I'd do it. First off, there isn't *so* much dust in deep space, and moreover, a dusty solar panel isn't working as it should, so it's could easily be that there'd be some kind of cleaning mechanism.
2) The engine should be some kind of ion-reactor one, yours looks a little too much like a ... err ... chemical one ? Given that it looks like the satellite is intended to fly some not-so-shabby distance, a, say, hydrogen-oxygen burning engine wouldn't be really feasible (read: propellent woudl take up way too much space and would add way too much weight )... Thinking about it, I'm not sure how to depict a ion reactor...
3) The model lacks, imho, some texture and some details. I would add some little cavities, and/or some smaller antennas, and something like that to the surface, it'd make for a much more realistic model... See, now it looks like a simple cylinder with a couple of solar panels and antennas attached
But, I still think the overall piece is simply beautiful
