After Lucky Star's accident, Derpy Hooves tried to compose herself as much as she could - for the sake of her wife, and her children. She would squeeze out a few tears and sniffles at the door of her daughter's hospitile room, take a deep breath and then put on a smile as she rushed in with a mouthful of stuffed animals or her daughter's favorite muffins in a flurry of grey feathers.

Lucky Star didn't like seeing her cry.

So Derpy Hooves didn't.

She kept her tears for her wife, Rainbow Dash...and sometimes found herself slipping in front of her youngest, Risky Gambit; her well composed mask slipping away into a mess of tears, snot and loud sobs.

A little look into Risky Gambit's past : he HATES seeing other ponies cry. This stems from watching and comforting his mother in one of the hardest times in the Dash-Hooves family history. His older sister recently lost both her wings in an accident. His immense dislike of crying also came from sometimes seeing his sister sob from the pain and loss of her wings as her wounds healed. This makes the stallion extremely protective of his mommy and sis.

Derpy Hooves is good at keeping up the appearence of being the happy-go-lucky mom she is most known as, but seeing her young son with tears in his eyes and the tremble of his tiny lip when it was just the two of them together made her lose it.

I kind of changed the age where Lucky Star lost her wings - instead of her losing them when she was around six I changed it to when she is a teen. She is also only two years older than Gambit now. Defying Dawn I think is a young adult at this time and is in college but he tried to visit his sister as much as he could!

Derpy has the problem (she thinks, her wife thinks she's adorable) of her feathers fluffing up anytime she becomes emotional. This is common with pegasus but it's really obvious with Derpy and it happens all the time.
