Probably because she looks "monstrous", meaning she has features they find abnormal, like her horns and the holes all over her body. She looks out-of-the-ordinary, and that frightens them. So they retaliate with fear and hatred.

That depends on your definition of "different", as everyone's different from everyone in some way. And I'd rather have a world of differences that a world where everyone and everything's exactly the same; a world like that would be so bland and boring, I would absolutely despise living in it. That's why I'm glad there are people of different races and backgrounds, because I can only imagine how stagnant things would be, if we were all one race, all lived in one big country, all spoke the same language, all liked the same thing... It would be a world without change.
