Description One month has passed since I posted my last drawing. The life of an engineering student lacks free time. However, for now I am less busy, and I'll be able to post some more works. This drawing in particular is a quick one, as I didn't spend much more than an hour on it.

Here is a drawing of a sandwich tern (Thalasseus sandvicensis), one of the species of tern that inhabits Europe's coastline, although it is a widespread species and also lives in America, Africa and western Asia. It's coloration changes through the year, as the forehead becomes white during the winter months and black in summer. During the breeding season adults develop also a crest of black feathers.

The sandwich tern feeds by plunge diving for fish, like it's relatives. During the breeding season the male offers some of these fish to the female as part of the courtship display. This tern breeds in very dense colonies, usually close to aggressive species such as the Arctic tern or some gulls in order to avoid predation
