Description This one is a self portrait as a vampire (inspired by the egyptian mythology...) . I've started it with a mirror but it was too long, so I've continued with a bad photo (not exactly the same pose, but it has been very useful for the shading).
I know it doesn't really look like a vampire at the first sight, but I'm a little bit tired of long pointy teeth, so this is my own version
No refs used for the hair, jewelry, snake....
18 hours
2H, 2B and 5B pencils
A4 paper

Hope you'll like it

wow I love the way you do hair with pencils!
Erm, I dont mean to be so critical, but it looks like the teeth arent exactly lined up with the mouth - there shouldnt be 1 tooth right in the middle of the lips.
Or maybe Im gong blind... just something I happened to notice

like your work is an understatement. I love your work. I also appreciate the dedication and work you put into your art. Works like that just don't happen because your good--you go beyond, swet the details, and it's clearly seen.
You have a gift Dianae. It's not just about learning and practice. Some of us in art, music, performance, etc have been blessed with an ability slightly beyond. A natural as they call it. I believe you have that. You also have a responsability with that gift. So I've been told with music. I believe your art and talent are for a reason. Not by accident. Only you will know in your heart how you will be used with that gift.

I realize this sounds spiritual, well isn't art a spiritual endeavor. We can use it for good or bad, that's where the responsability comes in. I have no doubt your talents will be used for good for many people. What higher gift could we ask for for?

Dianae In reply to Stepbeyond [2007-08-05 09:17:48 +0000 UTC]

I'll try to use if for good ^^ I think that a "gift" could never be obvious if one wouldn't have worked very hard though
Thanks so much!

Stepbeyond In reply to Dianae [2007-08-07 06:13:52 +0000 UTC]

I agree. We can all be given a gift, but it's still up to us to use it, and work on the natural ability, and develope it to the highest level we can. we've been given in any area of life. The're's so many.
I wish I had continued when I was young to go ahead with music. It was a crazy time to grow up. Was dealing with all kinds of problems at that time (late teens to ur age) Only picked up the sax in my 20ies.
I started in music at 9yo with the trumpet, at 16 was a drummer and played in clubs and such from 17 thru 19 I believe. Then stage fright sunk in)

That was it for music until I picked up the sax in my mid 20ies. In my 40ies I started performing again, playing the sax both in community bands and soloing in church. Talk about being in the spotlight lol Can't hear a pin drop. Much different when your playing gigs, weddings, in a 60 pc band lol

I really enjoy singing too now. Art has chopped away time from playing. Practicing.

Yup, the creative mind. Sometimes we get into too much

Wow cool, you must be a very good sax player then! I love music too, I would have loved to practise more (but I was a silly kid and I had decided to stop taking piano classes because I didn't like piano.... I've only taken classes for 1 year, now I'm playing only for myself, but I'm also singing in a band... I'd love to learn more about music!)
Soloing in church must be awesome Weren't you afraid the first time you've done it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to Dianae [2007-08-08 06:56:46 +0000 UTC]

afraid---no terrified You are playing piano now and sing in a band---OMG!!!!! This is just too cool. You want to learn more about music, God, It's been my passion all my life.

and you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I should've. I know, you're old now---22. Oh Dianae--Dianae--Dianae. Now don't you be talking all kinds of sill.

I picked up the sax in my 20ies as I told you. Everyone thinks I was playing at 9---yes I was---but a trumpet. I have a beautiful tone and do play well. I practiced hard and kept it up for many years.

I sing in the choir and I never thought I'd enjoy that so much. It's only 10 to 12 usually, but what a sound for 12 people.

You're just full of surprises. That's great. I love music--ask away. I also played a few community bands for years. Haven't done that the past 2 years, probably the art again lol.

You want to play the piano---just DO IT. By the old age of 25/30 you won't believe where you can go with at least 30 minutes to an hr to practice. You can make the time--trust me.

I'll do it once my school is over, I don't have time to take classes for now But I'll sure start learning again!
How is singing in a choir? It sounds great! I've always enjoyed listening to choirs, but I'm sure it must be totally different to sing with all these people, it must be wonderful!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Stepbeyond In reply to Dianae [2007-08-09 02:25:29 +0000 UTC]

It is. I never thought I'd love it so much. I look foward to the rehearsals and all the times we swing. Well, not always, but I won't get into that. I like being in a smaller choir versus these really large ones. Each person contributes quite a bit. It's a wonderful experience. Some arrangments are just so good too. Makes a difference what you sing too.
