You know what, I'm finally being brave enough to ask this question.
When did cartoons become so sad and depressing?

When they stopped pretending kids can't handle such topics and have themselves sad and depressing lifes.

When I was a kid most cartoons had superficial depth or you had to dig so deep it was your interpretation not main issue of the episode. Life is extreamly sad and depressing and cartoons feel shallow when they pretend otherwise. I respect modern cartoon network for tackling serious topics.

Should I show you a journal I wrote explaining my stance?
The Current State of CartoonsΒ Β Hello guys, if you remember from awhile ago, I wrote a journal explain my opinions on current cartoons. Looking back, that was less of me explaining my opinion and me playing the victim card. Here's what I was trying to explain or say in a more civil and mature matter.
Β Β Just like all of you, I am a person who like cartoons, but unlike all of you, I have different tastes and opinions on what's out there. There is some cool cartoons (and anime) that I am wanting to watch, but with most of them, I feel like I can't.Β
Β Β I don't know what you think, but it seems like each cartoon begins with a first season that seems calm and is not afraid to NOT take itself seriously, but then for the rest of the show, the show-runners just seem to ignore the tone they gave their creation and totally mess-up the trajectory of the cartoon. I've seen this happen with Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, Adventure Time and there could be more
