I can agree with you. Just like with sun and moon, many of the designs that I have seen so far are really not that great. X and Y I could handle, Sun and Moon, I could half handle, and this is just becoming worse and worse designs. Of course, I'm still in the dark nd don't even know what most of the pokemon look like because I'm just waiting. But from what I've seen (and my judgement when Meltan became a thing), their inspiration is clearly dying. Only a few designs I could live with, but stuff like this is really not the best design they could've made.

With the Dynamax, the idea is simply absurd. Replace the Mega-Evolutions for growing a Pokémon in turns, and that there are no improvements in stats.
Going to the open world and the MMO, they are things that Pokémon NEVER needed.
In addition, the region they made is very poorly done look where you look. For my fangame, I was studying hard enough to create a well-achieved British region (Locations, flora and fauna, history, culture, etc...); while they showed a thing that has no reason to be. In case you ask, my fangame had started in October of 2017, and I only continue it due to pressure from friends, team members and others.

Okay, that's just wrong. Honestly, the mega evolution function was amazing!!! At this point, I just simply don't understand them anymore. Heck, I don't even like the starters which is a VERY rare occurrence with my very wide berth of favorite pokemon. At this point, its getting very ridiculous.

You should see the whole picture. Not only the designs are ugly, but there is also the lack of study of the region, the Dynamax system that is more forced than anything else, the open world and the possibility that it is MMO (Things that Pokémon have never been needed), etc... You can't defend a mediocre game.

I'm over here, having enjoyed EVERY game since I started playing in 2010. I'm ALMOST 20 now and still love this series with ALL my heart.
SM/USUM was perfectly built around the concept of other worlds & alternate timelines.
LGPE was PERFECT as a new start on the Switch, and Co-Op was a HUGE leap for Pokemon in 2018.
SwSh IS BUILDING into OPEN-WORLD! THE BIGGEST THING THAT PEOPLE HAVE WANTED SINCE XY and even in BW/B2W2!!!

The Nat. Dex WILL return, but for now, with possibly 90-100 NEW Pokemon, we're hitting 1000 soon, they want to give new love to NEW Pokemon AND expand into later games.
I mean, G.2 LG in the future (CONFIRMED with LGPE's 2-3 MILLION sales) and the G.4 Remakes as well, they're DIFINITELY leaving out most (NOT ALL) Generation 2 & 4 Pokemon (Evolutions, Pre-Evolutions, & 'new' Pokemon).
I said the same about LGPE-

What I can notice is that you let yourself be blinded and you do not want to see the mistakes made.
Sun and Moon is a completely untapped idea. All the worlds and alternative timelines are fine, but the management of these elements is poorly executed.
Let's Go! they have been terrible remake attempts to change practically everything.
With Sword and Shield, you must know that the open world is something that Pokémon NEVER needed and that would be more harmful than beneficial. And that I am not mentioning ALL the other problems that these new games has, which indicate that they will be the first failure of the series (Cancellation of preorders shows that).

1. I'm not blinded by anything other than the stupidity of others who can't see perfection in the making. ALSO, remember, [GAME FOOTAGE NOT FINAL]
2. SM COULD be better, and I'm patiently awaiting for the future when we get to revisit Alola on another NEWER console and we're past this "#BringBackNationDex " debacle.
3. LG is not "terrible", in fact, they serve their purpose PEFECTLY. They were remakes YES, but to bring in new fans to grow up with an updated beginning game & region, etc. We STARTED the franchise with Kanto in Red, Green, Blue & Yellow. It ONLY made sense to remake those games for the NEWEST console for the NEWEST games at the time. LG G.2 is happening, and that's going to be a bit more fleshed out, JUST LIKE G.2 Gold, Silver & Crystal.
4. SwSh is the ULTIMATE "Fan Game" ever. Fans have requested Overworld Pokemon & Random Encounters, Open World Exploration, etc. SINCE 2013 when the first '3d' games EVER released.
HOWEVER, THE FANS (MOST ANYWAY) ARE INCREDIBLY TOXIC AND SEE SHAME, ETC.
I'm patiently waiting here trying not to KILL MYSELF BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY IS COMPOSED OF WHINY, ENTITLED AND SPOILED "ADULTS" who act like goddamned CHILDREN! It takes TIME and MONEY to build a franchise, but all they do is complain and scream about things THEY want or don't want in the next games, etc.
IT'S PATHETIC, and it NEEDS TO STOP.
With this new batch of games, people have become more entitled and shittier, and it ruins the appreciation and love that many people really have for these games, so stop your whining and leave the games for the fans, or GROW UP, SIT DOWN, BE PATIENT, and STOP. FUCKING. COMPLAINING. ABOUT. SHIT.

I can see that you can't stand the truth. Just because the fans want that from the open world does not mean that the franchise needs it.
You should know this: Since October of 2017 I am working on a fangame, and I am only putting what is really needed:
-A well-studied region in depth (Locations, flora and fauna, history, culture, etc ...).
-A huge focus on the story and a great care to make the characters (Even having protagonists with personalities and dialogues).
-Return of the mechanics that still have a lot to give.
-Introduction of others that are required (Example: A mechanics of logic that will serve to solve puzzles, which are now more cryptic).
Better to give the audience what they need instead of what they want.
I only continue the project due to pressure from friends, Team members and others; but all of them consider me someone that the videogame industry needs, whether they are fans or not. In fact, a member is saddened that Game Freak prefers to go down the easy road of mediocrity while a third world group (And one other first world member) strives to make improvements.
If you settle for less, go ahead; but if you really know that the series is in a decline, open your eyes and ignore Sword & Shield.

"Fan games" are usually always shit, but thanks for letting me know.
The ONLY fan games I've seen that aren't absolutely terrible are FNaF fan games by Nikson/Nickson, etc. (TJoC, FNaC, etc.)
Don't waste your time, but SwSh is working perfectly fine and 'true fans' aren't turning their backs because some Pokemon are missing/some textures look bad in 1 place.

You must see everything.
-They make excuses that it is difficult to program more than 1000 creatures. Tell the people of Yu-Gi-Oh! and the one of Inazuma Eleven!
-The region they made is terribly made from the beginning by the lack of investigation of the place where they are based.
-The open world, again, is something that is not needed.
-They still make the mistake of focusing more on online functions instead on story.
The real fans leave because there are too many mistakes they make. And rest assured that my Team and I are doing things as they should be done. Please don't waste your time defending mediocre titles.

I DO see everything:
- IT IS DIFFICULT to fully model & fully animate 1000+ Pokemon in a limited amount of time. have you SEEN the joke going around? "5 minute Pokemon model/render"? They want to give room for all the Pokemon to shine, but in order to not overload the console, they had to cut back on the amount of animating and rendering they put into the games, as too much can overstress the console, etc.
IT'S NOT A BAD THING!
- It's based on all (or most?) of the UK Region AS WELL AS Scottland & Ireland. How the hell is SwSh/Galar "Terribly made"?! HAVE YOU SEEN Unova/Kalos/Alola/OR LITERALLY ANY OTHER POKEMON GAME?!
- Open World HAS TECHNICALLY BEEN A STAPLE SINCE G.1 YOU CAN ALMOST TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE GAME! THEY'RE MAKING THE AREA MORE OPEN AND GIVING LESS RESTRICTIONS! STFU!!!
- "Focusing more on ONLINE FUNCTIONS rather than Story"
Sir, you CLEARLY have no prior knowledge of ANY Pokemon game to date. EVER SINCE G.1 IN GODDAMN 1996! They focused on "PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS", etc. Over "Hey, here's a realistic/simi-realistic story".

-First, the only way to make a British region well is to use all the isles. England, Great Britain and the United Kingdom are not enough (And yes, they are different). Second, that there are no counterparts of indispensable places (Example of city: London, Example of Side Area: Stonehenge). The correct name must be Avalonia (It comes from Avalon, a place of the Arturian Legends). And it lacks Pokémon that really represent the isles (The Grass Starter I made is a rose, which is a symbol there and that will have a medieval knight shape in its final evolution).
-You should know that it was in the Gen IV where the Pokémon world began to feel real; and that it was in Gen V where there was the greatest focus in story. In focus on the story Gen V had was what the series needed.

Everything shown points to that Sword & Shield will dethrone Sun & Moon as the worst games of the series. You should see the whole panorama. Pokémon is in a decline since XY, and it looks like they will not do anything to recover.
And being more personal, I crossed my fingers so that the rumors of an official British region were false, because since October of 2017 I was working on a fangame with a well-studied region (Name, locations, Pokémon, etc...), a huge focus on story and characters, mechanics that they return from previous games and new ones that are not forced, among other things... DevilDman knows that.
To my disgrace, the rumors were real; and I only continue the project because of pressure from friends, team members and others. In fact, one of the members of the Team says that it is sad that some Third World fans (and one or another First World) who do not earn anything work harder than some Japanese professionals who are paid.

What potential? The only thing I see is that you defend mistakes just because you think that players must settle for less. They could make improvements in all aspects, but instead they prefer to stagnate in a mediocrity that goes from XY. You must recognize that Pokémon is in a decline since then, and that Game Freak is not doing anything to get back to the top.
