This was me maybe...four years ago.

...I don't know...I think it takes something quite big to finally make you decided whether you do or don't believe.

Personally, I don't believe in God. Or any of that type of thing.

I...wow... I feel realy bad for you I know that’s not realy profound or helpful, but I can't imagine having to deal with that much fear. I suppose I wouldn't realy mind if death were simply the end. It would certainly make life seem a lot more special. In the end I guess I've accepted that I don't know much about god or death or reality, and it doesn't bother me anymore. Besides there are far better things to be afraid of, like spiders.

i could play devil's advocate here (no not literally.), but i won't bother.

all i can say, as an atheist, is that once you sift through reality, it's not that scary.

besides. who said death is the end? no one knows what happens afterwards.

i feel for you so much because I am in exactly the same boat. when i think about death i often have to curl up in a ball and squeeze as tight as i can just to keep from having an attack. i didn't tell anyone about that until this weekend, and it made me feel so much better. it is scary. i hope that you find your faith in something, because it is really no way to live.

God is there, I promise. He is there in unexpected places at unexpected times. I see everyday how he took my poor descision and made them good for me.

He truly does work in strange an mysterious ways, just keep looking and he'll show himself to you, I'm sure of it.

Everytime I start to doubt his existance, I think about every miracle ever happened. There's no way its all coincidence.

Like the time, my greatgrandmother accidently stabbed her husband in the back and missed all of his organs. Or how the very existance of our planet and atmosphere is unbelievably lucky.

Though, honestly, I'm not sure what I believe anymore. I thought I new, but then I learned Demons really do exist lol now THAT just blew my religious theory out of the water

maybe the fact that you are talking to him tells him you believe enough that he doesn't have to give you a sign, because you already believe.

I agree wholeheartedly with the third to last sentence.

Sometimes we're so intent on looking for a big sign that we can't tell that God is whispering to us quietly. Have faith and keep believing. <3

Ones beliefs are their own, but, if you need a sign to show you that god exists, than does he really? Is the line of faith drawing that much thinner now that people need proof to believe? What you need to do is look deep within you, and really take time to search and see if god is as much a part of you, as you are of him.

Do you feel as if he watches over you, and protects your soul? Or is he just a false sense of hope that you held onto to protect you from the real world? This is for you to decide.

Personally, i do not believe in god. But that does not mean i am against everything the religions surrounding him portray, i believe that it is possible that jesus could have existed, i believe it is possible the noahs ark could have existed, but i do not believe that there is an almighty being watching over us.

I believe that there are things that would seem to be not of this world, that could have existed, such as demons and angels, and just as i believe in those, i believe in the ancient deitys of egypt, such as set, anubis, ra, sekhmet, etc. i believe that there are unfathomable things out there, that only show themselves when the need is dire, but again, i do not believe there is one single creator of these beings that is almighty and watches over us all.

You see, we all have our own beliefs, and the only person that can tell you what to believe in is you. Look deep inside yourself, and you will find where your faith lies.

have faith!!!!!!!!!!
things take time
i prayed for years and years for healing, and then one day it just happened and bang i was a miracle.
i believed before i had proof, and when i actually got it, it just strengthens your faith. talk to other people who believe there are so many amazing testimonies out there and God speaks to people all the time. go to church, go looking for him through other people who know him. and read the bible, he speaks through his book
he will change your life, but not always overnight. looking back now i can see he has completely changed everything and without him i probably wouldnt be here. trust me its the bigger picture he's got everything sorted
note me if you need a chat

sorry that was a very large ramble

A sign? Are you kidding? If you haven't seen the sign yet, I'm worried about your eyesight. Once you read this I want you to go outside, and just take a good look. Plants, animals, people, this EARTH. It is beautiful, beyond words. Could a mistake, a 'big bang' create something so perfect and wonderful?

and like a few other people says, love God is living in faith. and Death is only the beginning! In fact I'm living to die now. Death is a beautiful and happy thing, when your soul is ready.

Because I also see all the suffering. Children dying of cancer. All of that.

I don't know what I believe.

I don't see him either.

I've had many people try to tell me that god is real.
But, it doesn't help. It makes me not believe even more.

And then I have people that tell me I'm going to hell because I don't believe in god.
But, if I don't believe in god, I don't believe in heaven... so i don't believe in hell.
So how would I go there?

That's because this IS earth and NOT heaven, earth is not perfect. Bad things happen.

What I see, is this. I choose not to just believe God but to serve him, seems you don't know what to choose. Right NOW at this second, say we both die for SOME reason. If there is NOT a God, then both you and me have lived a life we chose to live and all that is fine for us Now say I am right, and there is a God. I will be in an eternal paradise and where will you be? that's an awful thought not to know where you will be when your gone from the safety of a body and of earth.

...So the way you just worded it, I should believe in god simply because if he does exist I'm going to hell if I don't?

Say you are right, and there is a god, but not the one you so choose to worship? What about that? There are a million and one religions out there, and I guarantee you not a single one of them has it completely right.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

whiskey-lullaby In reply to foils [2007-12-07 01:24:46 +0000 UTC]

Religion and God are totally different things, I am not talking about religion I'm talking just about GOD. because that's true, millions of different religions. I don't think mine is prefect and correct, and I never said I did here, not once.

God is God, religion is religion. You can believe and love God without a religion attached, yet religion just happens to be connected with God.

and I can't say much on this, about if he is the 'right' God, because I'd need to be there in person to explain this better. But you will only be able to see this is the right one when you FEEL him. like I said, you don't need SIGNS but once you step in by faith you do get signs like this, I can't even think how to explain it.

And. When I die would he reject me for trying as hard as I could, just because my religion was off? At least I didn't just totally say "oh screw it." At least I did try.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

foils In reply to whiskey-lullaby [2007-12-07 02:40:53 +0000 UTC]

Religion and god are different things but they coincide very much. A religion indicates what you believe in. If you have a religion, then you believe in a separate god from other people. Like Egyptians had different gods for different things.

Just because I don't believe in god, that doesn't mean I just said "Oh screw it". I've looked into every religion I've heard of, I've tried to "find god" and I've never felt moved in any way shape or form to believe that there is such a god. I believe many things that indicate I really should believe in god because if not my other beliefs seem invalid, but...ah well.

Most of the people you put in the "oh screw it" pile, think more about religion, research religion, and try to make themselves into better more often than you ever will. Just because they aren't so confident in their faith doesn't mean they're damned to hell.

nylorac In reply to heliums [2007-12-09 17:20:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I agree. Believe me, knowing I could go to Hell is kind of scary. But as hard as I try to believe in God, I just can't. It doesn't make sense to me - and I've battled with this for years, researching all sorts of beliefs to try to find one that fits. Instead I've decided to believe in myself and my loved ones and how beautiful life can be. And as you can see, I acknowledge that I could be wrong - no human can possibly understand what's going on out there and I accept that. I've done the best I could to believe in something and make myself a better person, and I think I've done fairly well. If there is a God, I think he can respect that.

Maybe I'm wrong, in which case, I have no regrets about not believing in that sort of God even if he does exist.

I don't like the story itself much, but it shows some important truth concerning what you just said.

A man went to a barber. They talked about many things and one of them was God. The barber said:
- You know what? I don't believe that God exists.
- Why do you think so? - the man asked?
- It's simple. You just have to walk outside, to see that He doesn't exist. If God existed, do you think, that there would be so many sick people? There would be parent less children? If God existed, there would be no pain, no suffering. I just can't imagine God who allow all this to happen.

The man wanted to say something but finally he didn't. He didn't want to cause unnecessary argument. When the barber finished, the man paid and went away. And that moment, he saw a guy with long, uncared-for beard and hear. It looked like he haven't been to a barber for a very long time.

Then the man returned to the barber and said:
- You know what? Barbers don't exist.
- How come? I'm one of them!
- No. - the man responed. - If barbers existed, there would be no people with long beards and hair, just like the guy outsiee.
- No, barbers exists. It's just that are not willing to come to us.
- Exactly, - the man said - God exists, but it's people who don't want to find him and they do it of their own free will. That's why there's so much pain and suffering.

This is just my view, but I like to think, that people who die early, or old, they fulfilled their purpose.
I knew of a girl who was in my form group for 5 years, I didn't speak to her alot, but she died in a car crash last year, she was 17, such a waste of a life, and yet I like to think, that she died because she was needed else where. Her purpose had been fulfilled and in the times I saw her I don't think there was ever a time I ever saw her not smiling. So her gift to the world was her smile. And she's been remembered in my school.
No one truly dies, because they're always alive in someones memorys or heart.
Thats whats important, and sure in a hundred years no one will know who we are, but a hundred years from now doesn't matter, living right now does

So I kinda strayed from my point, but I hope you understand what I mean ^_^

I don't think you should wait around for signs. It's called faith for a reason - it's a risk putting faith in something you aren't sure of. That's what makes it so...miraculous, I guess? If it was just an indisputable fact that God existed, then it wouldn't be a belief, it would be a fact. If that makes sense.

If you really need a sign that badly then maybe you just can't put your faith in something like that. Some people can't - I can't. I'm not saying you shouldn't believe in God, but there are many beautiful, wonderful and mysterious aspects of secular life that make it meaningful too. Some people don't necessarily need God for meaning and it doesn't have to be scary without Him. When I finally decided I couldn't believe in God it stopped being scary - just because you don't believe in something religious doesn't mean you don't believe in anything or that life is hopeless and purposeless.

There are lots of things to consider is all I'm saying. If there is a God, He wants you to put your faith in Him; I doubt He'd feel the need to prove Himself to you.

YES! There are always signs, for everyone, but people usually don't want to "listen". I felt the same way, up until earlier this year. I wasn't sure if I believed and felt like I was someone who would need a big sign or miracle....I ended up stumbling over a fantastic book that basically changed everything for me-- Conversations With God. Maybe you should look into it.

I used to be extreemely religious person long time ago until I faced the same problem of doubts about God's existance. This uncertainity depressed me for long enough to stop believing. You should just stick to the thoughts and feelings that bring you the inner peace.
If you really believe in God, stop waiting for the signs, for he may be giving you some all the time without you noticing them.
But if you don't believe, just don't be afraid of that thought and accept it.
Both ways would comfort you, in a way.
