Something like this happened to me recently between a friend, although it wasn't really a fight or anything. Best way to describe it is we just "grew apart". I hate that though, its really hard to get her to contact me, and we've known each other for sixteen years and were best friends for 12. Its hard not to think about someone i spent 3/4 of my life with.

I can completely and utterly relate.
Except I would be the one who was not mature, and way too optimistic,
but I KNEW it was my fault and never blamed her.
I just wish she could look past my faults as well, so I wouldn't have to go and pretend I hate her, and that I'm over our friendship.
I don't want to panic when I see her walk with other friends, wondering if they are better than I was.

The only advice I can think of is to move on. Maybe s/he was a person that used to mean a lot to you, but they're not worth it anymore. You said it yourself: now they're just somebody you used to know. And I don't think that person they are presently is worth all the grief you're feeling now.

I know the feeling. If they cut you off just like that and act like they don't know you, then they're not worth knowing in the first place.
