This is an old idea that I started a long time ago, probably several years ago. I worked on this painting for a long time. It is emotionally difficult, and I just wanted to portray two angels, light and dark, who record the good and bad deeds, words and thoughts of a person.
I was inspired by the story where Michael and Lucifer (Satan) argue about who owns the soul of Moses. In my work, this is the nameless soul, a symbol of every person who has a battle between good and evil inside. An allegory between light and darkness, between forgiveness and judgment, between love and hatred.
Flowers are blooming on Michael's side, and he holds an olive branch in his hand - a symbol of forgiveness and peace.
Satan has a sword, he condemns and judges (here he is presented not as an enemy, but as one of God’s angels, but with a different function).
On his crown is a crescent moon, an ancient attribute of Helel ben Shahar, the deity of the Morning Star.
