Hiya! New ProjectComment , so I'll try to be helpful. ^^
First of all, let me say, I love this guy! He's a great balance of subtle comical and realistic creepy features. His expression is priceless. He just looks so done with everything. It must get very boring being whatever he is, or maybe he's having one of those nights. At any rate, it gets the viewer thinking about the character and imaging his personality and world.
The texturing is just marvelous, especially on the face and eyes. The eyes are very striking and have believable texture as well. Overall, the anatomy is good; everything is very symmetrical, and the extending and distorting of features works perfectly with the style or the species. At a glance, despite for instance the nose being very long, the eye assumes it to be utterly intentional. Overall, the character and his coloring and texturing are very successful and delightfully stylized!
I think the part that could use some work is the light and shadow effects. In particular, the brightness settings on your monitor may be tweaked higher than the default setting. In other words, it probably looks much more visible on your PC than for the rest of us. The entire piece is almost totally lost in shadow. Some of it's intentional, I'm sure, but it does make it hard to really grasp a piece if there isn't a good balance of light to dark.
The next thing that might help you is to pick one very specific point of origin for light. Where is the moon for example? Even if clouded over, it will have more light than any other direction. I mention this because around the skin, the highlighting is soft and indirect as though the moon is in a waning phase and ahead or overhead. The light on the hair, though, is hard and distinct as though the moonlight is stronger and overhead. But then the antennae have no highlight. Even matte black objects catch a little light. The fangs have no drop shadow from the lip, but have a sharp rounded shadow as though the light were right above them. Lastly, the gem is very clearly reflecting, though with soft shadow. It almost makes it look like the gem is glowing, too.
And finally, when objects are as bright as the eyes and gem, it stands to reason they will shed a little of their light on the features around them. Try using a brush set to add glow or soft overlay with low opacity, and follow around the edges of glowing objects.
Overall, great job! I love the character, his design and expression, and the way you painted him! Definitely do some light studies and try to push the contrast of highlight to drop shadows in your next piece. Keep up the terrific work!

This is a pretty neat design. Love the glowing yellow eyes! My biggest piece of advice would be to make him a little brighter since he's pretty hard to see here. Otherwise, really cool!
