What kind of medium did you use? Did you use pastels?

Also what dimensions is it in real life?

That has to be the best depiction of the Pillar I've ever seen, even though It's the only one I've seen so far...gruesome and majestic at the same time. Painting all those individual heads must have been an absolute bastard especially the ones in the lower "rungs".
Because as is the common planar saying, "The infinite wonders of the lower planes...If there is anything you don't like you' ll find it there"
Mt character Galen Trianor D' alzeron the tiefling from the prime has a vacation home in Avernus!

An excellent depiction.
I wonder, though, why do they keep suffering in there? Are they constantly bullying each-other or something?

Deusuum In reply to Miggail [2010-12-07 23:40:39 +0000 UTC]

Well, being stuck with the same guys for many centuries looks boring as fuck to me. Or maybe they still feel the pain that emerged when their heads were separated from their bodies. Or they are just bastards!

Just reminiscent of "The Apotheosis of War" (by Vasily Vereshchagin, 1871)

Nice!

Deusuum In reply to intheheartofsilence [2008-09-23 12:33:00 +0000 UTC]

Why not? Maybe there are several Mortes there.
Actually, there a a lot of people - Lenin and Stalin, for instance.

Not sure about Lenin and Stalin. I'd see them past Minauros at least. The 1st layer of Baator seems pretty mild for there beliefs.

(Reading aloud) "The Pillar of Skulls is a gruesome addition to those Demons killed in the Blood War; skulls range from varying shapes and sizes, from the miniscule to as large as houses. Bel, Lord of the First is particularly proud of his victories over the Demon Hordes."

Yeesh, remind me not to get on his bad side!

"Bel, Lord of the first is one of the greatest Military minds in the Multiverse."

That's awesome!! I love Baator (well, maybe I wouldn't want to live there ) it's fascinating, I can tell from your description you must have read the planar manuals way back in the day. ^.^ I love this rendition, and Baator is definately a place that needs drawn more! Maybe Caina sometime, I'd love to see some Gelugons. Anyhow. Great job! Particularily in purveying the atmoshphere and the awe induced by the bones climbing so high into the sky as to dissappear.

(Side note: Is that an Illithids head I see? )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Deusuum In reply to Forsaken-Starlette [2008-04-17 18:20:24 +0000 UTC]

Actually, there are a lot of different heads to be found there. If you look closely, you'll even see an easter egg - heads of Lenin and Stalin. Just a joke, mind you!
And you will see some baatezu in the next comic. But, unfortinately, the wait will be long, I guess...

Would be awesome if it looked that epic in the game, makes you wonder how he would find his "pet" in that mess.

Anyway great work very detail rich!

It's very good that you know it. No need to be sorry at all! You know, I'm a moderator on a Russian Planescape: Torment forums, and there are loads of questions from people who don't know anything...
