I tried something completely different this time and did most of my outline with my shading brush, giving her a very soft look. I gave her a more unique looking face than before, and thickened her lips just a touch. She was drawn in 0.7 lead, and shaded with a #8 artist series brush. This is my third go at a realistic rendition of my character Lei and I think this time I've hit pay dirt.Related content

I always like how you articulate the hairstyle in your artwork. very Smooth, Subtle brush strokes. has always the dreamy, fantasy appearance. lovely facial features, Asian i guess? Beautiful work.

There's nothing I love more than giving women long flowing hair! I typically do about 3 layers of hair, then blend, then 3 more layers, etc. Blending with a brush has helped so much with this technique. And yes, shes Chinese! I've been dabbling quite a bit lately with eastern pieces! such a rich culture and appreciation for tradition, family and honor - things I myself value very much.
Not to mention the rabbit hole of Japanese media I've fallen into. ahhh!

Absolutely! I kind of fought Anime for years because of how popular it is but once I gave it a try I found I actually really like it, I enjoy so much of the inappropriate jokes and 'camera angles' and the just plain awkwardness, haha. It reminds me a lot of the comics I read as a kid! We recently just finished watching one called "Gurran Laggan" and I think its my new favorite, that one, Evangelion or Violet Evergarden, but Violet Evergarden feels more like a western attempt at an anime. Still good though!

Yes, i do understand it's a hard style to resist, being that it is saturated everywhere and is hard to avoid, not only on DA but in most media platforms. i don't mind Manga or Anime in very small doses but i just think the Inappropriate images that look all fluffy and cute are actually quite revealing and in some cases pornographic. i guess it's OK if you're an adult who likes that sort of thing but this Anime appeals to young kids too and they have access to all these cutie pie images. It's the only style i will not draw. Other than that Well done on your new artwork.

I was watching the new Mulan while drawing this, haha so its definitely a bit influenced! The actress they chose to play her was so beautiful.
