Description
Built in 1813, the jail was determined to be inhumane to house prisoners in by 1991. It was shut down that year. It is rumored to be one of the most haunted places in Salem, Massachusetts.

It's no longer a jail, though it would have made a really interesting historical venue. They've gone and turned it into condos and a really expensive restaurant.

I actually took this photo almost 14 years ago, and haven't visited the jail since. I did hear that the jail was going to be turned into condo's and constriction might have already started. Probably not a good idea to go in.

That long ago? Wow, that place must have been in much better condition than it is now lol. It's a mess and falling apart. And no, they haven't started on any kind of construction yet. They've been talking about it for years. I've been itching to venture inside myself but it's probably not the wisest idea to do so on your own, but people break in pretty often though lol.
