This was the first time I had seen one as well, as the food supply was low up north so they ventured into our area. This year we had not had heard of any sightings of the owl at all.

This is a full fledged owl, I was at the extent of my lens. It is a large owl when you are up close

The owl was surveying the ground, for mice and other rodents.
