Description Mimosas are so delicately pretty. They seem to grow everywhere, but they die suddenly. Several people have told me about this, and I've never understood why this happens. I found this bloom near a large construction site where route #1 is being widened.

That's an albizia, not mimosa....

Oh...that's interesting! Around my area, people refer to them as mimosas...they have pretty pink flowers on them, too.

Mimosa is a tree with flowers of a vivid yellow....On your gallery it is only an albizia, you can check up on google with pictures.. It's strange to learn they are called mimosas

Maybe people in different parts of the country call them different things. I found several pix of this tree under "mimosa" when I googled for images! Here's one link: [link]

Thank you very much, Marsha. Mimosas are ornamentals and are often seen in peoples' yards. But they can grow just as easily in the wild. They are such pretty things.

I never see it but I know about mimosa - delicate and sensitive flower I intend to buy such a plant and to breed in the flowerpot

I know this tree, and your picture is wonderfully made!! The colours and the detail are amazing, I can almost touch it!
In Israel those trees grow everywhere, and I've never heard of them dying... Maybe it's the climate.

Thank you very much. I think maybe it's some kind of virus or other plant pest. Most mimosas seem to do well, but it seems like the ones in my neighborhood succumbed to illness. THey're such pretty, pretty plants.

Thank you again. I think mimosas are spectacularly beautiful! THey're in bloom all over Virginia right now, and some of the larger trees just make you stop in your tracks and stare. They're marvelous, with hundreds of pink puffs all over them! We had a few mimosas in our yard years ago, but they were infected with a virus that attacks that species, and died pretty suddenly. Wish we had them back.

Ooo..i love the greenies tones...Btw...these are not the ones that fly away with the wind (i'm allergic to these ones)

Thank you, thank you! The ones that fly in the wind....could those be dandelions? I don't like them, either.

Thank you. This is the season for flowers. By August, there wont' be too many in bloom--it gets too hot here.

Thank you, Ben. This was a case of "always carry your camera"! I was doing an errand, and just thought I'd explore the area for shots. Sure enough, I found some!

I've personally heard that mimosa (mamosa?) is an invasive weed, which is why it grows everywhere.

Great picture though!

desmo100 In reply to FractalMBrown [2005-06-17 00:30:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the mimosa were an invasive species. We have SO many invasive species here, it's not funny. And we can't get rid of them. Ugh! But these little flowers seem to die out so quickly, they don't seem to be a big threat like some of the other pests.

I havent ever seen a Mimosa before. What a rare looking flower. So delicate, it looks as though a gust of wind could just rip it to shreads. I cant get over how fine it is. wow. How neat!

Thank you, Kimberly. I think it's very beautiful, too. I don't see as many as I used to, but once in awhile they pop up. They're beautiful from a distance, too.

Thank you. These little blooms pop up here and there. They grow in tree form and are very attractive from a distance, as well as close up.
