Thank you very much. I thought it had an antiqued, burnished look, too. This came out better than I expected, being a beginner with layered fractals.

Thanks. I'm really working hard at layering, but it's still not quite clicking...got to study the thing a little more.

Thank you for the compliment and fave, Thelma. I've been going after fractal in a serious way lately, and maybe it's paying off a little. There is so much to learn and so much that can be done with ChaosProf software...it seems that all the answers are right there, if you search long and hard enough!

Thank you very much, Corina. I've been fiddling with layers a lot lately, but it's still really hard to cobble together something that is acceptable. I think this one is pretty good, but it's the exception to the rule!

Very nice!! I don't quite have "layers" down - I mean, I know what they are and how to do them, it isn't that - I just can't visualize them and turn out something that looks as together as this.

Thank you very much. It is VERY hard to layer fractals, I think! I know people who do really good work in this area, and put together some excellent layered fractals. But I've got to admit, they are hard work for me. For every good one I create, there are about 10 that I toss!

Thank you so much, Jenn! I'm so excited and happy that you like this one, because I was thinking (as I was creating it), I wonder if Jenn will think this is cool? I thought about your layered images, too. You have definitely been an inspiration to try new things in this area; Liz (MBF) has been, too. So between both of you, I've been given the courage to slowly crawl out of my comfort zone and try some wild and crazy experiments. One huge help was that I disovered some very cool orbit traps in ChaosPro; I think they're UF formulas. So it was a happy confluence of circumstances!

You're welcome, Jean! I did notice some Orbit Trap colorings there. It feels good to expand your boundaries, doesn't it? Great job!!!!

I'm sort of proud of it....I still feel that I really don't have a general concept of how fractals are best layered. I have a gut feeling that some of the images should be detailed, but others should be more vague, softer, muted. Also, I suspect that it helps to have fractals from the same "family" or formula so there won't be violent clashes! When I get all that stuff down pat in my mind, I'll feel that I know what I'm doing. Happy accidents are great, but I'd like to have some sort of plan going forward. (I sound like a government worker)

JennDixonPhotography In reply to desmo100 [2006-09-14 15:17:50 +0000 UTC]

I learned at first by just experimenting. The best way to learn for me was to use the same fractal in all my layers, but use different colorings. I got some good results from that.

desmo100 In reply to JennDixonPhotography [2006-09-14 15:52:26 +0000 UTC]

That makes total, logical sense to me. I'm going to try that approach more often. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you very much, Anita. I discovered a gold mine of orbit trap formulas yesterday. They require an awful lot of input, but the results are so worth it! I think they are UF3 formulas. Anyway, I really hit the jackpot with that little discovery! I have so many spirals now.

Thank you so much! I'm getting bolder about layered fractals these days. People have been encouraging me to try it more often. So I have been, and have cranked out a few pretty decent ones. It's still hard to get a great one, though. Glad you like!

Thank you so much! All three of the fractals were the same Mandelbrot formula, but looked VERY different from one another. I combined them in various ways, and this seemed to bring out the best qualities of each image. I'm glad you like it!
