Excellent. Thanks. Would love to see the same detailed reference line drawings with model recumbent, arms up, too.

The internal anatomy of the breast is quite complex and very much related to the shape, mobility and βhangβ of the breast. Look up Sir Astley Paxton Cooperβs βOn the anatomy of the breastβ Vol. 1, monograph and Vol. 2 Plates, You will find it on line Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson Digital Commons, Rare Medical Books. The breast is an appendage of the skin attached at the nipple. It grows inward at puberty, seeking a blood supply from blood vessels branching from 1) the axilla and 2) the branches of intercostal arteries arising from the internal mammary artery, between the ribs at the edges of the sternum. In general. About half to 2 thirds of the gland volume grows around the lateral edge of the pectoral muscle toward the axilla and a second , less dominant lobe orients toward the sternum. The two major lobes are fused at and are anchored at the nipple. The breast is much more firmly attached to the skin and nipple, and less firmly to the chest wall. They βswingβ like a sling, from their blood supply at the axilla and sternum. The proportions vary, and therefore, so does the βcentral massβ of the gland, and the direction the nipple tends to point... in, out, up and down, as the center mass shifts with gravity. It is also affected by the volume of denser glandular tissue, the less dense fatty tissue, and the degree of stretch and the loss of elasticity of the skin that occurs with age. Fatty breasts βpillowβ, Dense breasts point. Young ones perk. Old ones sag. Every pair is as different as the woman they are attached to. The ligaments that support the breast internally form a complex, convoluted single surface that support individual glands and ducts. Fat lobules fill in the spaces in between. Kind of like the squishy sponge-like plastic things (name?) you scrub with in the shower. Try a sketch study of the same woman from ages 40 to 80, with changes of fatness and Degree of sag (ptosis) over time, standing upright, supine, prone and on her side, with arms stretched upwards.

Β Somewhat like some of the other comments - an aspect I have often had a problem with, particularly the muscle movement as the arm re-positions.

It is stated on my profile page that all I want for these tutorials is for people to learn from them. This was used on a blog for learning how to draw and is sourced at the bottom with a link to my profile. I appreciate the diligence, it is very good of you, however I am okay with the use of this picture with the other anatomy references on the link you've posted, as long as they don't claim actual credit for them, which they specifically don't in the disclaimer on the general information on the right side of the website. It doesn't seem like anything is being infringed here.

MiraKHall In reply to DerSketchie [2013-05-02 01:04:56 +0000 UTC]
Well, females and males ARE two entirely different subspecies -- it's the dimorphism we've evolved to recognize on the spot. I think it'd be cooler to do studies on both males and females based on the three versions of body type, ecto-, endo-, and mesomorph.
