Well they did lose the trunks, and his belt, but by the way Very cool, I wish they did something like this instead of what they did do... and on a side note I really like your S shield the one they did I HATE it, if you know what i'm talking about and seen the photos of the suit.

very interesting. I like it, however, i am accustomed to the red underwear. not having something over his crotch makes me focus on his bulge. that's just me though. GOOD WORK!

I can't say that I agree. I've seen a lot of attempts at redesigning Supes that have dropped that trunks that still totally said "Superman" to me. But I suppose when the criteria is that it has to say something specific to someone individually, there's no measuring how it would work outside of that.

The Trunks have always been there. None of the movie or fan designs have ever made it look good when they nix the trunks, look at mcg, ratners, burtons designs they all suck and deviate too much. two big mistakes people make are losing the trunks and integrating the S to the cape. I mean why change what works? If you want do something better, find a better way of integrating the red trunks then losing them.

That's just it. Defining what "Sucks" is subjective.
Having just seen the McG design by BroHawk, I think it looks great. I think connecting the shield to the cape looks a little to military, but I think his belt design without the trunks totally works and still completely looks like Superman.
In the case of Superman's costume, it only "works" because it's classic, not because it's perfect. It's not. It's like the Coca Cola logo. If you were to design that today, you would be laughed at. It's overly busy and antiquated and is a "Classic" design and iconic more for how damn long it's been unchanged then anything else.

The belt looks great, but needs to do something instead of exist, the McG suit isn't bad, but the Collar on him looks too imperial as does the connection between the cape and the shield, the trunks work on many levels. I think the Superman Suit is perfect, it's colorful, it's different from what started and whats established, it's classic before it was classic. The belt seems rather pointless without the trunks. and the Trunks are just the right touch that add to the Superman feel. The Trunks aren't supposed to look something human, it's designed to look Kryptonian, and that is why it works. the closest i've seen of a suit that looks like a reboot while looking remotely superman is: [link]
and

but i would still say the classic is better, it's what everyone knows and that's whats best for the character. I love your design but without the trunks it doesn't say Superman.
My solution to redesigning the suit lies in redesigning the material to look more alien, so you keep the classic suit with a crisp new attitude to it.

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree concerning the trunks. I just don't think they're essential to the costume as you do. And while some creators have tried to retroactively say that the suit's design was supposed to be inspired by his Kryptonian heritage, the real world reality is that it was designed to look like a 1930's circus strongman. And trunks on the outside were common in those outfits. Nowadays, it just looks horribly outdated and silly.
But that's my opinion and yours is different and I doubt either of us are going to convince each other any different.
Ultimately, our opinions won't be a factor in how the new movie suit will end up looking.

I'm kind of butting in here, but I find that nixing the trunks on superhero costume designs normally brings attention to the balls. In live-action, I mean. It's safer to keep the trunks. They're so iconic that if they're missing, you notice that they're missing, and attention goes to the pelvis and the actor's junk. See the new Spider-Man outfit, for example. Doesn't have that belt piece, looks really weird, brings out the balls.
Other than that, this design is great, especially the belt. It looks almost retro. Not in that 1930s, 1940s way, but in that 1950s or '60s Doo-Wop/googie architecture way. Very sleek and fitting for an alien!

Maybe you're just obsessed with men's balls.
The trunks ALWAYS look queer.
