BARKRAWL (bar-craul)
The Wood Badger Pokemon
Pokedex: Despite its small stature, Barkrawl never backs down to larger foes. It jabs and punches with the same claws it uses to dig for food and has a rough coat textured like tree bark.
Ability: Overgrow (Powers up Grass-type moves in a pinch.)

After a failed attempt at another Grass-type starter, I decided that a change of pace was needed, breaking away from standard reptile/dinosaur model. There are plenty of creatures native only to forests that aren't reptiles.
Since I was toying with the duel types matching, the Grass/Fighting starter was actually the last one I designed, after changing it from a Grass/Ghost. The concept of using a mammal as the template remained the same, although I wanted to better exemplify the Fighting type by picking a forest-dwelling creature known for its brutal and angry demeanor, hence the badger. The name comes from the words BARK + CRAWL (or) BRAWL; "bark" to embody the Grass-type and detail the texture of the monster's fur and "crawl/brawl" to stand for the creature's nature of either crawling on all four or brawling with foes.
